That series was surreal. They caught everything, barreled up everything, and mediocre pitchers became Cy Young. I suspect involvement of the BBGs.
Often wrong, but never in doubt.

Putting Fiers in to protect a lead may have been misinterpreted as Hubris.

more like a bad dream to me. I hope it got some guys attention.
The bullpen this series:  12.2 IP  30 H  29ER  11K  17BB  2HR.
10 runs allowed 3/4 games....just five previous times all season had the Astros allowed 10+.

With decent work from the pen, we split the series.

I'm pretty sure the bullpen walked more than one hitter.  I don't have the figure in front of me though.

Thanks for catching that.  I have corrected the collective pen's work below. I mixed up the total pen #s with Gregerson's that I was looking at.

Total Astros pen for A's series:  12.2 IP  30 H  29 ER  11K  17BB  2HRs.

Clippard and Guduan walked the ballpark. Kuechel too.

Our A team relievers got pounded too. Surreal.

Hinch needs to play the varsity from here on out. Send several of those expanded roster guys home so he won't be tempted to play them.

I almost felt sorry for Guduan.

This is my biggest criticism of hinch, he tries to use his whole roster, giving him 37 guys to use seems like a mistake to me. The main guys need to playing every night, they need to get that mojo back.

After Friday night's game I had a nightmare that we got shelled on Saturday and swept for the series. I was so relieved when I woke up.

I feel I may have been to blame here. I was so looking forward to this series, the 4 games in like 38 hours, the on-paper pitching matchups, the just prior good play by the Astros and just prior poor A's play that I was guilty of anticipating the Astros taking at least 3 and possibly sweeping the series. I never said anything but, apparently, the BBG's can hear your thoughts. I am very, very sorry.
Another trenchant comment by a jealous lesser intellect.

4 days ago there were people on here saying they were scoreboard watching for World Series home field advantage.   The BBGs weren't having it.

Seems the large lead has affected almost everything about the approach to the second half of the season.  While there is still a nice lead there is precious little time on the calendar to start playing the type of baseball that got the lead in the first place.

I'm probably just blue-skying things, but I think the Astros will right the ship and play well in Anaheim.

Seriously.  I never need to see Guduan pitch again.  I am convinced that he has compromising pictures of Luhnow.  That's the only explanation I can come up with for why he keeps getting thrown into games.  He wasn't even good in the minor leagues.  JD Davis is a better reliever than Guduan.

He's a lefty who throws in the upper 90's.  He'll get chances until he doesn't want them.

Because he has a great arm. You would have given up on Dotel too.

There are a billion pitchers who had great arms but couldn't make it in the majors.  How about Guduan show that he can pitch in AAA before he pitches in the middle of a pennant drive.

Gudaun has MLB experience this year because Tony Sipp sucks.  If he takes what he's learned this year, and makes the adjustments he needs to make, he'll be back in Houston next year.  Otherwise, he'll be in AAA working on his craft.  He's too young, too lefthanded, and has too much arm talent to cut bait on.

Great.  And I really hope he makes those adjustments.  I just don't want to see him pitch for the rest of this year because he is obviously not ready for major league hitters right now.

A lot would have to go wrong for Guduan to be added to a playoff roster.  Beyond that, Hinch coaches September like he's at the Y.

Dotel, unlike Guduan, actually pitched well in AAA before being called up to the majors.
