Gregerson

What is up with  the usually reliable Luke Gregerson? Is he playing hurt? He's allowed a Fiers-like 11 home runs in 55 1/3 innings.  I've not seen the same bite in his slide piece in most of his appearances this season. He doesn't have big velocity  in his heater, and I think that the hitters are sitting back and waiting for a cement mixer, and I've seen plenty of those.

More troubling though is that I've seen lots of mistake pitches that hitters simply have missed. Gregerson has allowed earned runs in slightly over 20% of his appearances, which seems like a lot for a backend bully guy. His groundball pct. is good at 49.7%, but that's negated by all of the home runs. At 33, is he a descending player?

In my opinion, he's too unreliable right now to use in high leverage situations.

I'll hang up and listen.

You know how I know you haven't watched many (any?) Astros games this year?

I know nothing about mechanics or how hitters are solving Gregorson compared to years previous, I just know I don't want him or Guadan on the playoff roster.

Shitfuck. I've seen lots of them, usually after the fact. What's your point, smartass?

you know more about pitching than me but with finesse pitchers, and that's what he is, isn't it almost always location/command? He's been up/down most of this season. He also doesn't seem to get regular work any more with so many guys in the pen. He probably needs to pitch every third day anyway.  He doesn't have a regular role like closer or 8th inning guy. Of course he hasn't earned Hinchs' faith either so chicken/egg. It wouldn't surprise me to see him find groove either.

He hasn't been getting used much at all in high leverage situations for a long time.
You may ask yourself, "How do I work this?"

Well, he was the only Astros regular pitcher in the WBC. Might be something to consider.
Didn't seem to affect Neshek though. (BTW, wouldn't it be nice to have him on the roster all year)

As far as I'm concerned, he got into one of the Athletics games with the game in doubt and winnable. And he's been in others recently, admittedly not as many as before.

Maybe there's a reason the phrase "soft tossing righty" isn't a part of the baseball lexicon.

He has been an afterthought most of the year. He got in that game because Hinch decided to go with his JV relievers with a four run lead. Gregerson gave up a grand slam to take care of that.
Often wrong, but never in doubt.
