RIP Glen Campbell

Don't know why, but he was always a favorite.  Some great songs, some great guitar.

at one time a member of The Wrecking Crew. If you are of a certain age it is amazing how much popular music they contributed to.

He was always a favorite of mine too. He was an immense talent. Being a big fan of Jimmy Webb too, my favorite songs by Glen were By The Time I Get to Phoenix, Galveston, and of course the sublime Wichita Lineman.

I liked those also. Also really liked his cover of Randy Newman's  Marie.

His (much more famous) version of the great John Hartford's "Gentle On My Mind" was probably responsible for Hartford's becoming well-known, for which many owe Campbell a debt of gratitude. And wow, he was still alive!?

His last 10 years or so were especially touching because of Alzheimer's.  He made a pretty public and very dignified farewell.

Seems like every man and his dog covered that song, I thought Roger Miller did it best.   When ever I hear Glen Campbell, Bonaparte's Retreat is the first thing that comes to mind.

If you haven't already, "Glen Campbell: I'll Be Me" is a pretty good documentary about his career and especially his life since the 2011 Alzheimer's diagnosis.

It's available on Netflix.
