BBGs
« on: May 31, 2017, 06:41:55 am »
Folks, it is never too early to be acutely aware of the harmful effects of taunting the BBGs with hubris. Be grateful and humble every day, even when vexed by insufferable Rangers fans (was that redundant?), and enjoy watching this special team play. Act like we have been here before.
Often wrong, but never in doubt.

Understood, but if there's one thing I've learned in the last year, it's this:

If you can survive having your most sensitive files hacked by your rival AND an endless FBI investigation with no satisfactory result, and STILL build up a seemingly insurmountable lead, then nothing can really go wrong after that.
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

quote from bull duham

ull Durham
written by Ron Shelton

Annie: I believe in the church of baseball. I've tried all the major religions and most of the minor ones. I've worshipped Buddha, Allah, Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva, trees, mushrooms, and Isadora Duncan. I know things. For instance, there's 108 beads in a Catholic rosary and there's 108 stitches in a baseball. When I learned that, I gave Jesus a chance. (she sighs) But it just didn't work out between us. The Lord laid too much guilt on me. I prefer metaphysics to theology. Y'see, there's no guilt in baseball, and it's never boring. (she giggles) Which makes it like sex. There's never been a ballplayer slept with me who didn't have the best year of his career. Making love is like hitting a baseball. You just gotta relax and concentrate. Besides, I'd never sleep with a player hitting under .250. Not unless he had a lot of RBIs and was a great glove man up the middle. Y'see, there's a certain amount of life wisdom I give these boys. I can expand their minds. Sometimes when I get a ballplayer alone, I'll just read Emily Dickenson or Walt Whitman to him. And the guys are so sweet, they always stay and listen. Of course, a guy'll listen to anything if he thinks it's foreplay. I make them feel confident, and they make me feel safe -- and pretty. 'Course what I give them lasts a lifetime. What they give me lasts a 142 games. Sometimes it seems like a bad trade. But bad trades are part of baseball. Who can forget Frank Robinson for Milt Pappas, for god's sake! It's a long season, and you gotta trust it. I've tried them all, I really have. And, the only church that feeds the soul, day in, day out, is the church of baseba

Be grateful and humble every day ... and enjoy watching this special team play.

Agreed.  One of the many reasons I love baseball is that the regular season means something, so the accomplishments happening now are indeed noteworthy.  I humbly acknowledge them, and I just really enjoy every game.   I love this team.  Can't wait for the next game.

I don't know remember off the top of my head what the Astros' record is when I'm out of the country, but I think it's pretty good. I get back to the US on  Friday night. So we'll see.

"These are Your Houston Astros, after all, the first team in the history of baseball to have a game played in a domed stadium be canceled on account of rain; the team that decided to replace Nolan Ryan with a mustachioed journeyman named Jim Clancy, only to see Ryan sign with the Texas Rangers, throw a couple of no-hitters and become the most beloved 46-year-old power pitcher in the universe; the team that replaced its cuddly mascot, Orbit, with a lanky menace named Junction Jack, a terrifying rabbit kitted out in very unAstros-like bib overalls and engineer's cap; the team that — from Art Howe's sideburns to Jeff Bagwell's pharoah's beard to Kaz Matsui's long, strange sojourn on the disabled list due to, um, proctological misery — has both fascinated and horrified us."

Fuck that ass for bringing up a bunch of unrelated bullshit. Duh, we all know what month it is.

I'm not sure what's going to work, but I had Ynez send me some more smokes, and having one right now with my coffee.  Playing in Denial League later today, and I promise to wear my lucky stirrups and not step on the foul line.  Unfortunately, I'm not leaving the country again until Sept 15th, But I'm trying.  I'm really trying.

we as fans all have to do our part. I have found and hung in a prominent place a Keuchel  card where he is beardless along side the one of bagwell beardless. Have no idea how these two came about, but seemed like a good shrinettype baseball thingy.

I actually laughed at that, Fredia. Shrine-type thingy was funny to me this morning.

Maybe you should add an Altuve beardless card. But it would have to be a photo taken before noon.

I think "Series Previews" maybe should resume.

Oh God.  It's all my fault.

I think this group respected the BBGs and did not cause the present woes. Clearly, however, the Baseball Gods are angry. There is no other possible explanation for the never-ending parade to the DL. I blame throwing in Aoki to clear the way for Fisher. There was no other reason for him to be in a Teoscar for Liriano trade. Problem is, I do not know what can be done to appease them. I am willing to listen and to try most anything.

Probably not. I just like "Series Previews" and miss them. I'd write one myself except the standard is far above my writing abilities.

Now that we know you have a creepy astros altar, this ritual has become slightly more interesting and potentially more effective.

Sending a sizeable check to Alabama might do the trick. Make it out to Jose Cruz III. What can it hurt?

Work life has been pretty crazy the last few weeks, and seeing as how I usually write them while at work...
