Standings
« on: April 20, 2017, 10:34:55 am »
I've gone some years recently without looking at the standings.  This year I've been looking.  There's some weird stuff going on.

1.  The Rangers are the Astros' mirror image, and not in a good way.  Or in a really good way.

2.  Is the American League West weak?  I didn't expect it to be.

3.  What the hell is up with Toronto?  What the hell is up with Baltimore?

4.  One can only hope that the American League Central stays at .500 for the rest of the season.

It's entirely possible that teams have only played for 3 weeks, and that it's too early to make much sense of anything.

It's always good to see the Astros on top of the rangers.  whether it is only week 3 or week 20.

Yeah, but the complete wackiness of 4 teams in the Central being at .500 is special.  And the Ranger at 5-10 and the Astros at 10-5 may be meaningless, but sometimes one just needs to pause for a good gloat.

Tread lightly. We haven't played them yet. I fully expect Houston is a better club but I think they were a better club last year, too, and weird stuff happened when they played. As long as Beltre is there I get nervous. I suspect he is into some weird voodoo shit or something.

No offense to the Baseball Gods, but Beltre doesn't scare me like Pujols scares me.  One is evil.  The other is a Ranger.

After last year's insane, historic run, Strangers are 0-4 so far in 1-run games.

No, Beltre is not evil, just a great baseball player, but the Rangers have another with a certain foul, fetid stench to him.

It's 3 weeks so it's not time for any conclusions. Any of the Astros, Mariners, Rangers and A's could still win division. However, it's possible if the Astros could beat up the Rangers that they could run away with it and the others beat each other up (except the A's, they are going to lose 95 games). Still, too early to tell.

I don't think the A's can win the division if they lose 95 games.

It would be more evidence that the division is weak.

They would probably be considered underdogs in the Division Series  against the Wild Card-winning 112-50 Yankees.

I don't know why Baltimore always flies under the radar.  They have a lot of talent and have had recent success.

Baltimore's starting pitching is sketchy, especially with Tillman out. They just got a big night out of Ubaldo Jimnez. Ubaldo Fucking Iminez. Who expected that?

I like Beltre a lot, but I've been waiting for Father Time to catch up to him. It may have happened.

He had that one amazing spring/summer with the Rockies, and then what?

That's it, except for the 4 or 5 fairly decent starts per year.

I've seen a lot of Jiminez, ass he pitched for Cleveland one year and had a good year. I've always liked his arm but hated his command. Bases on balls are a huge problem for him.

Yes, some people just can't live with themselves until they tell the BBGs to fuck off.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.
