Alvarez is starting to get some real praise from the prospect gurus. Keith Law brought up his name today when asked to name the best Futures Game prospect most people haven't heard of.

Jeff Passan called him the second best Cuban prospect, behind Moancada.

I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

Fisher (batting 3rd for the USA squad) walked in 1st inning against top Cuban pitching prospect Yadier Alvarez. In the same frame, Tucker (batting 6th) grounded out.

Tucker with the RBI double to left in his 2nd AB.
You may ask yourself, "How do I work this?"

And Fisher is the final USA starter to get a hit, lining a 2-run double to the gap in left.

World pitchers not fooling anybody so far.

I believe that, it was a rope.  Both our guys took 95 mph fastballs the other way.

Alvarez with the RBI line drive single up the middle in the 9th off the 97 mph heat from the lefty AJ Puk.

(That was his 2nd plate appearance of the day. Walked in his first trip to the plate.)

And in the really important contest of the day:

"But when it came to showing outstanding raw power with long BP home runs, Yoan Moncada, Derek Fisher and Lewis Brinson stood out."

"In right field, Derek Fisher hit the longest ball in the right field upper deck, as he went nearly halfway up in the fourth section of seats in right center."

Ringer MLB Show podcast, July 3. Luis Robert was the guy Passan specifically called out, saying he'd rather have Alvarez over Robert, despite the huge bonus. Complimented Luhnow on the deal saying it reflected the Astros attention to low level prospects.
