Yeah we aren't there yet, and I can't think of a way we will get to that point until the contract with Root Sports expires.  Until then this is a pretty good consolation, though.

I'm confused by the wording "fans who subscribe to those channels".  Specifically if my provider is Spectrum, with no Root Sports, am I still out in the cold?

While I don't know for a fact, I'm certain you will have to subscribe to a provider that carries the network. The deals are done between the network and the provider, not the network and the viewer.

I think for now you have to watch it on your provider's website/app or on Root Sports' website.  I would assume an app is coming.

Looks like this has gone live. I just opened my MLB At Bat app on my phone and it asked me to authenticate with my TV provider (DirecTV). After entering my credentials it fired up the live stream of the game, no VPN jackassery needed.

I only see DirecTV and Consolidated Communications listed as providers, so I guess those of us with AT&T still have to wait.  Also - does the phone app not allow you to cast it to a big screen via Apple TV?

Yeah, I'm kind of surprised that AT&T isn't offered since DirecTV is owned by AT&T.

I have Android so can't speak to Apple TV.

According to the Chronicle article AT&T is on the way.  Comcast doesn't have an agreement in place for streaming yet.

Only way I was able to get it to work was with the MLB At Bat App, and on an iPad.   If you are on an iPad scroll down and there is a Root Sports link.   On my iPhone I couldnt ever find the link and had zero luck finding it through my browser on my laptop.

Edit - got the login to work on IE but not Chrome.  Fuck me.

I have the same problem with a lot of websites that direct you to a provider login. Chrome no likey.

I stream the Astros through the At Bat app over 4G all the time - works great as long as you don't mind using an inordinate amount of data (for the last 30 days, have used 7.2 GB through At Bat).

For whatever reason, I get one bar here in the office.  On a good day.  Stream just starts and stops.  I have unlimited data, so I don't really care how much it uses.

I thought I saw some place that ATT UVerse was supported, but that is not an option on the provider screen.  I do get Root on my UVerse package.  Anyone have any better luck?

So I'm in Norman Oklahoma due to a death in the family for the next 8 days. I was shocked to find out this is in the Astros "market" even though it doesn't seem Cox cable has any interest in broadcasting any Astros games for the entire time I'm here. I don't see ROOT sports. Am I SOL?

I have MLB at-bat premium but I don't believe Cox is a valid provider to get the away games. What if I purchased the MLB ticket through my mothers (where I'm staying) cable provider? Would the games still be blacked out? Yes I'm willing to spend that to watch the next 8 games....

I'm almost certain you can use a free browser extension like Hola (http://hola.org) and choose a random country and you can watch the game through a browser. This of course works on a desktop or a laptop. If you must use a tablet you'll have to search elsewhere.

I was in Portland last week, I can stream Astros through the APP at home since I have DirecTV.   Wasn't able to access  it thru the app while I was there, I googled and found out that "at this time" you can only stream if you are currently in market, which seems pretty dumb.    Thankfully I also have Slingbox, so FU MLB.

I have an older Roku with component video outputs. I've tried several times to control it with my slingbox but haven't had success. Having no cable this would be the best travel solution as I could just sling the MLB app off the Roku from home. Has anyone else tried something like this?
