Karbach to be acquired by Anheuser-BuschInBev
By Ronnie Crocker Updated 12:05 pm, Thursday, November 3, 2016

Fast-growing Karbach Brewing Co. of Houston is the latest U.S. craft brewery to be acquired by a global beer giant, announcing Thursday morning that Anheuser-BuschInBev is buying it for an undisclosed amount.
The 5-year-old Karbach will be part of the company's U.S.-specific High End business unit, joining the likes of Stella Artois and Shock Top; Goose Island, Breckenridge, Elysian and five other craft breweries; a cider company; and a hard seltzer company.

Ken Goodman and longtime business partner Chuck Robertson, who founded the brewery in a building they formerly used in their beer distributorship on Karbach Street, said existing management and brewers will remain in place and the company will retain much of its independence while also gaining access to the resources that will help it continue to grow.

I say good for them.

They're not dead to me until Love Street tastes differently.  So, there's a few months of backlog to get through.

The backlash among Houston beer drinkers appears swift and decisive. The Hay Merchant is discounting all their beer until it's gone, then will stop carrying. Others will also stop. They're getting toasted in the media for selling their barley souls to the one true beer Satan.  In short, they've fucked Lumburgh.  But they'll have that check to keep them warm.

I just could never get into Love Street, has a weird mediciney aftertaste to it to me.   I enjoyed Sympathy for the Lager and Hopadillo, Weekend Warrior and some of their seasonals.

I have a strong preference for kolsch style beers out of a can and there aren't too many readily available.

KUHF had a panel of local brewers on their Houston Matter show yesterday.  I recognized Brock  Wagner and the guy from the Under the Radar Brewery.  They were basically laughing at the Karbach guys for "selling out" but they did feel that the move will make more space for local brewers both in terms of money from AB to improve exposure and expand the market and the fact that consumers within the market will turn up their noses at AB.

Beer in cans is important for around the pool or on the river. It's hard to find good beer in cans period. I'm a fan of Love Street too.

I'll check that out.

They are kind of hard to find. Spec's and D&Q are the best options.

Any other Kolsch recommendations?  Love Street is my favorite Karbach and St. Arnold's Lawnmower is a notch above that, imo.  I really miss Shiner Kolsch.

Can y'all not get Real Ale Brewery beers there? Great beers out of Blanco Texas.

Never liked Karbach, don't like St Arnold's, don't like Real Ale, don't even like Shiner.

And I've never voted for a Republican for anything.

Yet on my passport it says Place of Birth: Texas.

I don't like guns, either, and I don't think that every goobersmooch has the right to drive around in his dually with a pistol in his boot clip but I am quite sure I could shame any of you motherfuckers skeet shooting.

Anyway, color me shocked that a pair of fat Texinecks would sell out to a multinational giant and then claim that it wasn't about the money at all. Blatant mendacity from fat Texinecks. Knock me over with an empty Budweiser can.

Increasingly yes.
