Springer's misplay costs 2 runs...3-2 Mariners now.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

That's three runs that could have been outs.

I could put it next to my piece of AstroTurf from the closing of the Dome. Except that I think I jettisoned that when we moved a couple of years ago.

Save some for the weekend. The only thing worse that watching Fiers lose to the Angels will be watching Fiers lose to the Angels because Pujols hits two homers off of him.

Yes, it is. Even if they somehow magic their way into the wildcard, Brownie won't be doing any playoff games. Tomorrow is it.

E3...Marisnick hustling...loads the bases...M's challenging...very, very close...call stands...bases juiced with two out.

Bregman with a 2-out RBI to tie the game!
He's been missed.

I think you could make a strong case for Devenski as most valuable pitcher on this year's team.

I definitely think he's more valuable in the pen, especially with the unreliable starters this year. I'm not sure his stuff translates to three-times-through-the-order, although maybe he's working on some other pitches that would make that more reasonable.

I was at the game last night and when he came up in the 11th some Mariners fans behind me were awestruck that we didn't intentionally walk him. Not really good baseball to put the winning run on but he screwed us anyway.

Changing his approach from slugging to on-base.

I didn't read the article, but sometime recently, heard Hinch talking about him cutting back on the swing, especially with two strikes.  Two things: I really hope the more mature approach sticks in his mind and why the fuck has it taken so long?  Did they not preach to him that swinging for the fences all the time was unwise, or has he finally just heeded their advice?

I honestly have little idea what they preach/teach.  My default/hope is "Of course they preached that, it's obvious, it's sane," but I'm not certain.  I realize many think just the opposite, saying "they encourage that shit, just look at all their hitters that routinely swing out of their shoes."  I honestly don't know, I see both sides, hitters who apparently don't value contact much, and a club that went out and drafted Bregman and acquired Gurriel, and publicly stated, IIRC how part of their appeal was their ability to make contact.

Speaking of hitting, Gomez is .274 with 7 HRs and 21 RBIs in 106 ABs.  The Rangers have made mechanical changes in his swing giving him a firmer back side. Before he was late on pitches and was overswinging. Gomez added the Rangers have repaired his damaged confidence with constant encouragement. As reported in Dallas News 9/28.

Good for him.  Are you suggesting the Astros should have kept running him out there every day?

Absolutely not.

Then I don't understand the obsession with what Carlos Gomez is doing now with another team.  Lots of players move on to other organizations, some improve others get worse.  This is not unique to the Astros.  Gomez was terrible with the Astros.  They cut him loose.  I don't see what else there is to this.

What offends my sensibilities is the constant bringing Gomez up, as if the Astros somehow missed the boat on him.  He was garbage.

For gawd's sake....I have no problem with the Astros dropping him. I just reported a note from yesterday's Dallas Morning News in relation to a note about swing changes for Springer. The DMN pointed out what swing change allegedly put the guy back on track. I didn't blame the Astros for anything and I didn't think it  necessary to editorialize my personal feelings about the subject but apparently I should have.
