Rangers grab the lead on another bullshit non-made easy out.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

T1:

Gomez strikes out swinging on three pitches
Desmond taps one out in front of the plate, Musgrove inexplicably calls off Gattis and then can't pick it up...scored a single, but should have been an easy out.
Beltran...full count...doubles down RF line, Desmond scores
Beltre grounds out 4-3, Beltran to 3B
Odor grounds out 3-1

1-0 Rangers

I'm OK with that.  But you have to make that play.  You can't give back outs, in any inning.  Gattis has to make that play.

He could have just as easily stopped, picked it up and still thrown him out by a step.  He panicked a little.  Rookies. What are you going to do?

You let the catcher make that play.  It's his all the way.  But yeah, he panicked.

He has exceeded any expectation I had of him from reading scouting reports online.
Wonder how he would do playing everyday? Is he allergic to RHers?

His hitting hasn't been an issue except the one year in Corpus.  He's been a slow but steady developer.

I'm sure he will be in the rotation. Wouldn't it be great if he was holding down the 4th or 5th spot?

Did Peacock earn a legit look at the rotation next year? Can Luhnow dare count on him?

If Keuchel and McCullers are healthy, add in Musgrove, then you've got in house any combination of McHugh, Fiers, Paulino, Feliz, and Peacock.  Plus anyone Luhnow might sign or deal for.  I'm not sure Peacock won't be gone.

Maybe Martes is ready by July. It still looks like a gamble to not bring in a TOR guy if they can deal for one.

And that's why I'd look at him as a final innings reliever.  He could give Luhnow a look at including Gregerson in a deal.

I don't know that he has the variety and stuff to see a lineup 3 times.

We'll see what the Astros do but I'm not a believer in the was a starter in the minors so he has to have a chance to start in the majors.  He's proving right now that he's a terrific reliever.

First Altuve, now Bregman, and seriously, fuck 2016 with a rake.
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

Oblique strain.

I think the radio guys called it discomfort, which sounds like code for mild strain?

Both altuve and Bergman eh? So even when they can actually maybe sorta have a slim chance of winning a game against the Rangers the BBG's have to take this kind of a sacrifice!?

I'm about to go full Prometheus mode on their ass. I know me and my liver lose this battle but worry not fellow GZers. My liver is well and truly fucked already. Someone has to knock these ranger loving shits down a rung...

Altuve was hitting. Bregman was running the bases and ducked down to not be beaned by a throw from Beltre.

5-4 now, Rangers still hitting in the 8th.

Ashby: not much you can do there.

Yes...you can not take three fucking strikes with a runner 3B and one out.

Devenski's fastball sits at 89-90 when he's starting.  That extra 5 mph he gets when relieving makes a huge difference on the view of his change.

Agreed. I suspect that's the main reason for his improved success out if the pen.  Improved slider has helped also.

I'm happy for that.. but to see Bergman exit like he did and then the dreaded "oblique" word with Altuve... it was going to require a heroic effort already but if those two are out for any amount of time. Damn, I guess it's about to be the Marwin ESPN highlight show these next two weeks. I hope he's prepared.

I'm OK with that.  But you have to make that play.  You can't give back outs, in any inning.  Gattis has to make that play.

They're not supposed to, but that's sure what it looked like.  Gattis backed off.  That's his play.
