Watching on TV. Cubs fans all weekend, lots of empty seats for rival game in playoff chase. Must be football season in Texas.

Raise your hand if Beltre's AB surprised you.

Shockingly, an Astros starting pitcher is putting his team in a hole.

The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

That's typically the way it is.  The Astros gave up the state of Texas five years ago.

The biggest tear down in history (the worst three year stretch in fifty years) came at a price and hanging around the outside of the wild card race doesn't pay it.

This may jeopardize my credentials as a Luhnow schlong-gorveller, but the Feldman deal made no sense at the time, and even less now.

I respectfully disagree. I feel like this season is already "ahead of schedule". Next year is when I saw this team being a roaming group of assholes that beat the life out of opposing fans. I felt like last season was an unexpected Christmas bonus from a job that never offers such a thing. This year is the following Christmas bonus that was a bit sicker than the last bit still a fucking Christmas bonus. Next year is when I might be a bit more demanding.

If the "schedule" was seven years to be competitive again, that's even fucking worse than not meeting the schedule.

I don't think Feldman makes this team a contender at all. Too easy an answer. He was useful in his role before the trade but he's been a mess in Toronto. The Astros needed Chris Sale and Chris Archer both to make this really work. Would you be ok without the talent that would have cost....?!

I think they have made a decent run so far considering.... This is not a complete team yet. Enjoy it people.

I'm not sure why I'm supposed to enjoy this being an incomplete team.

But the Astros grab a 2-1 lead thanks to Castros lead off tater.

And I must say, Peacock did a nice job getting through six innings.

And they have a $6.5MM team option on Neshek, with a $500K buyout.

Game should be over now.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

In the last few weeks Cardinal, Cub and Ranger fans seem to steal the thunder...?

This team is just mentally screwed up.  The weird unbalanced lineup they had most of the year messed with their 'clutch' hitting stats... but they've been so damned undisciplined and 'unclutch' in so many other important areas. The more important the job, the less likely it gets done, even if the player involved has the talent to pull it off. Closer, anyone?

 I'm not going to call out anyone by name, because that would not be fair. It's most likely a group dynamic and not the fault of an individual player or players. Any players who could be considered guilty of 'choking' might have had no issues in a different setting.

This is going to make Luhnow's already very difficult job this offseason even harder. Not only will he have to plan moves to make up for deficits in talent (i.e. starting pitching), he's going to have consider making moves based on chemistry. With no guarantee that he guesses right. And if those moves come in the form of trades, the other GM's are going to bend him over the table if they get the slightest hint of what he's trying to do...
When the Clark is dead, Spack will eat his spleen. Before he dies, Spack will put his posts under the knife so the Clark will see his threads wiped out forever...

I guess I came to terms that this team "sucked" or was "incomplete" in April. All the meaningful baseball since has been a bonus. I don't really see even in hindsight a move that makes this team better without giving up way too much. Say we got a top flight starter at the deadline. Great. That gives us an extra win or maybe two at this point. What did the offense lose without Bregman in that time?  Maybe we have a 1-2 Chis Sale right now because our offense sucks balls sometimes. (Sale is still obtainable this summer)

If anything I feel like this current squad has been "as expected". I'll stick to it, next year is the payoff. The ownership is not cheap and the scouting/management are not stupid. I've enjoyed the "highs" of this season. The "lows" have been brutal but they can't possibly have been a surprise to anyone watching.

I trust Luhnow to do an effective tear down, but I'm not seeing very many positives in how builds a team outside of the draft. Tell me which trades have worked. Which free agent acquisitions have paid dividends? IMO, he has been below average in these areas.

He hasn't made a blockbuster trade, but I liked getting Marwin, Devenski, Marisnick and despite last night, Giles.  He got totally fleeced in the Conger deal, and the Valbuena and Gattis trades have been "eh".

As for free agents, I liked Neshek, Gregerson, Ramsus and Harris (waiver claim, but still).  We'll see about Gurriel, but he looks promising.

Free angency this year is crapola as far as pitching goes. A trade seems like the only way to get some good starting pitching.

Sale or Archer. But if they start listening on either of them they are going to want Bregman at least probably. So then Lunhow will be back to the dilemma he had at the deadline.

This is my point.  No one was willing to go there at the deadline.  Why would anyone go there in the off-season?

Yeah, I figure Luhnow's approach will be:
A.  Hope for health of Keuchel and McCullers;
B.  Hope Keuchel also regains some form;
C.  Promote from within; and
D.  Search for a cheap diamond in the rough.

This will piss off a lot of fans, but the alternative approach isn't too attractive.
