Riding Reed's fuego stick? Seems like Gurriel would have slotted in that spot in the order nicely to break up the three lefty bats, and they just mentioned he's expected to play 1B in the series.

Offensively. Remains to be seen how they will do against a team with actual pitching. Although I'm not sure there's anybody in the AL who fits that description, either.

yep, nothing at all in between.

Well, if you don't think the Rangers are simply better than the Astros, you have to chalk it up to something else.  What would you say it is then?

They have the best record in the league.

They have the distinct advantage of playing 19 games against a team that wilts at the sight of their red and blue caps. I am not convinced that they are a better team than Cleveland, KC, or Boston, but maybe they are. We'll find out in due time.

Quoted for truth. The Rangers may have an unsustainable record in one run games, but their dominance over this bunch of Astros and their manager is fucking guaranteed.

Well, they are lucky in the sense that Beltre and Beltran haven't broken down, but that bill will come due soon enough. They're unlucky with Choo's health.

I will readily admit that their offense is the best in the league. I'm far from sold on their defense and pitching, though, and I think that will hurt them in the postseason.

Boston's offense is far better. Since we mainly watch the Rangers beat the Astros it just seems like the Rangers are great. Their pythagorean is 69-65.

So tell me why the Rangers are leading the league and beat the Astros to a pulp, if it's not talent.

I didn't say it wasn't talent. But the Rangers have the best record in the American League precisely because they beat the Astros to a pulp.

2016 Rangers vs. Astros: 11-2

The man is 37 years old and is still among the top 3 third basemen in the league (which is a high bar, what with Machado, Donaldson, Longoria et al). I don't understand how he's doing it, especially since he's been prone to hamstring problems in the past.

Riding Reed's fuego stick? Seems like Gurriel would have slotted in that spot in the order nicely to break up the three lefty bats, and they just mentioned he's expected to play 1B in the series.

I dislike Banister more than any of their individual players and it's really not all that close.

Didn't the Astros interview him when Hinch was hired?

Someone's gonna have to soak up a few innings...the next two games are critical and Hinch can't afford to waste the pen in a blowout.

Probably.  Luhnow must have thought "geez, even *I* think you're an asshole".

It was assumed that Bogar was going to be offered the job after doing a good job to finish the previous season when he took over for Washington.

Gurriel with a 2-out single to LF in the top of the 8th. Bannister comes out to yank what's-his-ass. Astros still trail 10-6, with Castro waiting to face what's-his-name coming in from the pen.

Good thing GC sat Gurriel to get a hot bat in the lineup.

Maybe they should look up from their spreadsheets every once in a while and watch a game.

You and your Panamanian voodoo...

I live on the Pacific side, not the caribbean side.

A while back I planted some habanero plants with seeds that were brought directly from Havana. I'd always wanted to do that. Anyway, they're growing like crazy and I'm starting to see the first peppers appear. I'm inordinately excited about all of this.

I was going to point out earlier that this would not end up being one of those one-run games and now I'm glad I kept quiet.

Twenty percent of global GDP knows where it is. And we do make some pretty smart hats. It's just that no one outside of Panama wears them. Poor marketing. Like reggaeton. For better or for worse it was invented here but no one seems to know it.
