Athletics @ Astros August 31, 2016

Not the cleanest of defensive innings in T2 as A's go up 3-0. GB single under Correa's glove, error on a hard-hit grounder to Correa and a ball that got past Marisnick for a triple followed by a sac fly.

Meanwhile, journeyman Ross Detwiler retires the first 6 Astros he faces. 3-0 as we go to T3.

A's getting some good whacks at Fiers's fastball.  He's not fooling anyone.

Among things I did not expect this year: Gattis throwing out 12 of 23 steal attempts.

Fiers manages to extricate himself but also drives up the pitch count to 70. Still 3-0 going to B3.

Marwin doubles off the LF wall to kick things off in B3.

Warning track FB by Teo moves runner to 3rd.

Marisnick pops out to short LF so Marwin unable to score.

All up to Springer who pops out to 1B.

Still 3-0 to T4.

Pair of singles with 2 out puts two Oakland runners on.

Fiers whiffs Valencia to end inning but pitch count now at 88. Same 3-0 score as B4 up.

Bregman starts off B4 by drawing a walk.

Altuve again pops out.

Bregman moves to 2nd on a WP.

RBI double by Correa on grounder that hugs the 3b line (sets Astros RBI record for shortstops).

Gattis walks, runners on 1st and 2nd with one out.

Grrrrrriel up. GIDP.

Astros on the board but down 3-1 heading to T5.

A couple of quick GB outs in T5 followed by a Ryon Healy double. Teo then fields the warning track FB in RF to end inning. 97 pitches for Fiers.

3-1 bad guys as B5 upcoming.

Marwin deep fly to Tal's Hill but it's caught as B5 kicks off.

Teo goes down on called strike three. 2 out.

Marisnick LD single to left.

Springer down swinging.

Still looking up at 3-1 score.

Devenski in for T6. AJ Reed also in at 1B as Marwin perhaps rolled an ankle last inning running the bases.

Pop up followed by a whiff, 2 outs in inning.

And a GB ends it. Still down 3-1.

Devo, Devo, Devo...

B6 cometh....

Bregman pops up to the 2B for out #1.

Altuve whiffs, now 0-3 on the day.

Correa Ks as well.

Same old boring-ass 3-1 score as T7 looms.

T7...

Weak FB to center for out #1 with Devo out for his 2nd inning.

Another flyout to Marisnick for out #2.

Khris Davis whiffs to end frame.

Still 3-1 Athletics.

B7 with Detwiler still dealing...

Gattis whiffs.

Gurriel weak FB to left for out #2.

A.J. Reed, currently in an 0-13 skid, does not break out of it as he whiffs on the offspeed stuff.

Still 3-1.

T8 as Michael Feliz on for Devo...

K swinging for first out.

Popup for out #2.

Strike 3 gets by Gattis (ruled a WP) so runner aboard with 2 out.

Another pitch gets by Gattis for WP #2 in the inning so runner now on 2B.

Third K of inning for Feliz to end T8, still on the wrong side of a 3-1 score.

Teoscar high FB to center for first out.

Kemp PHing for Marisnick. Punches out for second out.

Springer triples to the Hill.

Bregman (most RBIs in majors since Aug 16) tying run at the plate. He K's on the WP, Springer scores and Bregman also reaches.

3-2 score with Altuve at the plate. Scorches ball to RF, scoring Bregman and ending up on third with the triple.

Game tied at 3.

Correa gets the IBB. Runners now on 1st and 3rd with 2 outs.

Gattis up. LD single to LF scores Altuve.

Watching both of those triples was awesome. Both balls were hit just hard enough to get over their respective fielder.

The unsung hero comment above reminded me of a funny moment here in New Orleans...
