There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

For me, my favorite Footer moment was the diatribe she posted to Astros.com after Jeriome Robertson lasted a whole third of an inning against the Brewers in the stretch run.

That's 15 game winner Jeriome Robertson to you, mister.

The Late 15-game winner Jeriome Robertson.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

What's the current thought on whether 19-game winner Colin McHugh becomes a similar footnote in Astros history?

Whatever the future holds, there's no question that the past separates McHugh and Robertson. Robertson's 15-game season was fluky even while occurring. McHugh was legitimately strong in '14 and '15.

I agree.  I think he's unlikely to approach 19 wins again, but he's been productive and will probably continue to be.

Let's talk about McHugh.  He's has not been good this season.  Is he even in the rotation next season?

Assuming that the Astros don't go out and get a veteran pitcher (and McCullers is okay), could the rotation be Keuchel, McCullers, Musgrove, Fiers, Devenski?

Its not that I am particularly enamored with Fiers, but he's been better than McHugh.  And the Astros have Martes and Paulino who may also be ready for next year.

McHugh is being paid $500k this year, with his first shot at arbitration after next season.  For the price, that's a damn good 3-4 starter.

I think he's arbitration eligible this off season.

Don't forget Brady Rodgers, who is close to wrapping up the PCL ERA title and more polished than the other two.

Unless they sign Lourdes Gurriel in the offseason you wonder if one of those younger arms gets packaged for an impact OF bat... or a TOR arm?

Sure, that's a good price for a #3/4 starter... the question is whether McHugh is even a passable #5 starter anymore. This year he's got a 5.01 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and has given up 1.5 HR per 9 innings. That's not acceptable, to me, on a contending team. But... maybe the Astros feel like he's still got the stuff and has just had some bad luck and perhaps fixable command issues. He's still doing a very good job with walks (2.5 per 9 IP) and strikeouts (8.9 per 9).

So I don't know what to think about him. It's been a season-long struggle for him, and it seems like even his good outings are just OK, never great.
