Increased Offense + Shorter Games = ???

Manfred is still pretty insistent on trying to solve these 2 issues without affecting the other.  Not sure that is possible.

http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/2016/08/18/mlb-rob-manfred-pitch-clock-reliever-limits-limiting-shifts/88960724/

My ideas:

- 20 second pitch clock (not strictly enforced in the last 3 innings)
- 2 managerial timeouts per game (excluding pitcher substitution)
- 1 mound visit from the catcher per game
- Relievers must face at least 2 batters
- Enforce the batter keeping 1 foot in the box

I don't see the point of limiting defensive shifts.

I don't see the point of trying to arbitrarily shorten games.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

Pitch clock has a shot. It works in the minors, IMO.

I don't think it's as big of an issue as Manfred does, but I don't enjoy constant mound visits, pitching changes, and starters who take too long.

I'd prefer that they concentrate on exactly one problem: how to get rid of obviously shitty umpires.

What problem, perceived or real, is he trying to solve?  The game is great the way it is except for the ridiculous DH.  When I'm at a game that blazes thru in 2 hours and 40 minutes, I typically feel like something's missing. I like the cadence and pace of the current game.
Another trenchant comment by a jealous lesser intellect.

You all realize moves like this are not designed to appeal mainly to us, right? They are 100% about reeling in more borderline/casual fans. Those folks are much more inclined to think the game is long and boring.

I'm sure some changes will be made, and some of them could even be good, in my opinion. The only question is whether they'll take it too far.
