I'm glad they were able to juggle things around to keep Gomez and Rasmus' bats in the lineup.

This year Happ is pitching like Keuchel did last year and vice versa.

The kick to the junk feeling associated with getting shut out by Happ may rekindle my PTSD from all the 100+ loss seasons.

Why does our predominantly right-handed lineup have so much trouble with LHP?

A lot of times when a team struggles offensively you get the feeling they are going to just unload on somebody.  I don't get that feeling with these guys

There are guys on the team that would find a way to strike out in slow pitch softball.

5-9 are 6 for 60. That surprises me. I don't remember six hits over the last ten or twelve days.

This slump began after unloading on  Angels with 13 runs I think it was.

I don't know that I have ever seen an umpiring crew that is so terrible behind the plate in all four games. Night after night. It's impressive.

Did I get that correctly...the Jays scored on a strikeout?

Surely this level of incompetence will get noticed in the league offices? (I'm referring to the umpires, not the Astros.)

Yes, ball in the dirt bounced up and off of Gattis' mask, if you can believe that. Careened away and the runner scored from 3rd. It didn't help that the batter should have been called out on the previous pitch.

But not far enough to not be able to run it down and throw out the batter?  Makes sense, I guess.  All I got was "Smoak strikes out swinging, Martin scores, 2 outs".  Some things just leave a lot to be inferred.

Yes, batter was walking off to dugout on what should have been Strike 3 and the ump told him to get back in the box. Ump was the only one in the park that didn't think it was a strike.

How do you swing all the way through the zone and follow through without breaking your wrists?

He realized half way through his swing that the pitch was 16 inches off the plate.

And Correa finishes the job by hitting into a weak 6-4-3 DP.

It would be interesting to know how good Correa could be if he didn't spot the pitcher at least one strike every AB. He's generally locked in with two strikes. He needs to start the AB with the same approach.

According my sources, Altuve swung at ball 4 on a 3-0 pitch, then missed two center cut fastballs.  Correa saw six pitches, none of them strikes on his way to grounding into a double play with the tying run at 3B.

Well, Altuve's first strike was indeed on a high FB, but he likes those and he's pretty good with them, so I'm not going to bitch about that. He did miss the next two, but he didn't miss the second one by much. It wasn't a pathetic AB by any means.

First pitch to Correa was the 6" outside pitch that's getting called a strike this entire series. Then he fouled back some high pitches that he had to swing at because who knows what's going to be called a strike with these guys. Then he rolled over an outside pitch.

And now Tulowitzki gets fucked by the umpire. These guys are brutal.

Fuck, hard line drive gets past a drawn-in Altuve. Looked like he might have gotten a little bit of glove on it, but it went through. Three runs in for Toronto, and it might as well be 100.

At this point I'm just happy that they'll have enough pitching to avoid 100 losses next year.
Right?

If they plan on only scoring 74 runs next year, that might be tough to do.

If this offseason breaks the wrong way they could end up with only four major league starting position players... Altuve, Correa, Springer and Guriel.
Then the rest of their offense would be Marwin and assorted chunks of waiver wire gristle.

Help coming from inside the organization can't be assumed at this point...

When asked how he would describe Donaldson pregame, Gibbons settled on "wingnut" after some "uhhhs" and such.

Foul pop-up hit one of the rafters. Martin recovered and caught it anyway, but it's just a foul ball once it hits the rafter in foul territory (which can probably be difficult to determine under the right circumstances, but not this time).

If you're like Donaldson and don't know that a ball that hits the roof in foul territory is automatically foul then yes, it's directed at you, too. Especially if you run up with your hair on fire and complain about the call.

That's some pretty slick baserunning.

Step back from the ledge. Another year of development will help, and the team will free up roughly $40mm by virtue of losing Gomez, Rasmus, and Feldman.

In my defense, my line of sight is somewhat obscured by the 10,000 miles between me and the rafters.

Boy, if they fuck up and get swept by the Rangers, that'll pretty much be the end of the playoff aspirations.

In what alternate reality did you think they wouldn't?

Not that there hasn't been plenty of dick stepping, but what the fuck is up with the umps in this series?

That's what I was about to say. This is horrible, hard to watch. The sad part is the pitching is actually keeping them in these last few games but the offense can't do jack.

They definitely need a relegation system. If you finish in the bottom three of the rankings for three consecutive years, you go back to the minors. Or something like that.

Looks like Correa got rid of the beard after the game today, hope that helps this offense.

I think it's going to take more than facial hair sacrifice.  I'm thinking a full-blown slumpbuster is in order.

On a side note, what is the Astros' record since Scott Baio spoke at the RNC?

He shaved his beard before the game.  Didn't help
