Fiers with a three up three down frame, including a swing and miss strikeout of Cabrera. 0-0 Top 2

If HPU gives Verlander this strike zone, it's going to be a long night.

Horrible call on White, pitch was way inside.

Actually, the pitch may have crossed the plate, but Verlander totally missed his spot, which normally means you don't get the call.

Especially on that 0-2 pitch, with a veteran pitcher on the bump. Gotta be hackin'.

I agree. I don't know about you but after the play at first with Springer I would have been swinging at the first thing he threw if I am Tucker.

I don't know what Altuve was thinking there. That just takes the bat out of his hands.

Killer loss. Need Gregerson or Giles in the 9th from now on.  McCann would have never hit a FB from Harris. Two out walk started it. Dammit.
Often wrong, but never in doubt.

Hangs two curveballs for hits to tie the game, then loses focus and doesn't hustle to cover 1st on a play that should have had the game going to the 10th inning.  Not one of Harris' finer innings.

the Giles we saw tonight was the Giles Luhnow traded for. Can he do this consistently? Time to find out in the 9th.

Agreed. He has looked extremely tough in the last few outings. Time to find out if he can close things down.

Absolutely savage loss.
If Luhnow is still in the trade hunt, I don't envy his job tomorrow.
He needs help in the lineup, the bullpen and the rotation.

This team has been doing it with mirrors for a while and now it's starting to catch up to them...

Props to Fiers though. I was cringing at the thought of him as the "stopper," but he nearly pulled it off.

Yes, I thought they had no prayer tonight but almost pulled it off. I hope they feel good about themselves after this game rather than down. BTW, the replay of the last play looked like Harris could have tagged the runner if he had better presence of where he was. Castro being at first wasn't the best luck either.

This was disgusting.

ETA when you are short-handed, you cannot substitute like you have a 40 man bench.

The Bregman error was brutal not just because of how it impacted the game but because he's the absolute last guy who needs another punch in the confidence right now...

I doubt they will try Gregerson before Giles again in the 9th but if I'm not mistaken Gregerson has looked pretty good as of late as well.

Yeah, that's going to have me grinding my teeth all night.

I am going to watch the Rays game, seeing the damn yankees get beat is always a bit of a tonic for me.

Ausmus looking a little iffy for sticking with Verlander.

Budgirl is going to hate to hear this, but Ausmus gets second-guessed a lot as a skipper.

If he had a higher career BA he wouldn't be second-guessed at all

Not true. Ted Williams got second-guessed a lot as a manager.

Can you imagine what it was like for Ted Williams to manage mere mortals?
