So anything of note tonight?

Bregman's first opportunity in the field was a tough hop off a liner and he made the play to retire Beltran.

I expected the strangers to pound Mengden tonight, which they have failed to do so far and trail 5-1.

Agent Mengden
You may ask yourself, "How do I work this?"

I wouldn't have minded Gomez busting ass and making a drive at that flair instead of positioning for a barehanded laser from center. Springer was right there, and the ball wasn't going to run far if it got by him.

Looked to me like he hesitated at the last second as if Springer was too close. Busting all the way he can dive for that one and we're still up.

Totally bullshit hot take, granted, but it's been my experience this year that leadoff bombs are often the chief highlights in otherwise punchless efforts. Hope that's not the case tonight.

I initially had the exact same thought and then pushed it aside... Yet here we are.

Yeah, well it appears now they'd be lucky to score two runs tonight.

Instead they're going to gag away a very winnable game to a shitty team, scoring one run off a butter tub with a 5+ ERA. Fantastic.

In all seriousness, when you look at a lineup if you have black holes in left at first and at catcher you have to think about these things. Of course the team's answer has been to play the single worst hitter on the club.

Runner on second with one out and all they need is a fucking base hit to tie it and Gomez swings like an absolute jackass on strike one. I've personally had enough.

Unless Marwin should be on the DL I don't see how he wasn't a better option than Gomez.
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

Swinging hard at the first pitch is ok. Swinging hard at a slider nearly in the dirt when a double play ends it shows a lack of situational awareness and an inability to recognize the pitch, both flaws Gomez has consistently demonstrated.

Swinging hard is one thing but taking a hack so violent that he has no chance in hell at making meaningful contact is another. I have no doubt Gomez cares about the team and his career deeply. He certainly shows it with the effort he puts out. But at some point you have to be able to rely on your training and talent and not take at bats like Animal from the Muppets.

He's always been that way and he isn't changing now. Luhnow knew what he was buying.

Ryan Madson giveth and he taketh away. Gives up a 2-run jack in the 9th to Smiley Beltre to give the Rangers the win.

Isn't the season over for you?  You said they gotta take the last 2 against the A's.  They didn't so I guess in your world they are eliminated

Oh yeah, they're toast. Done. Put a fork in them. Shut up. Nobody ever said anything about being eliminated.

Shut up.

You're the one that keeps dropping must win scenarios in July.  You should take your own advice

But not every series is a "must win." If they lose they're next 3 series they'll still be in it.

Yes I agree. But I feel like this one and the next we can and should take because come August the opponents get a little tougher. So we don't want to be in that position.

I agree they are not necessarily must win series, but I want them to win (or sweet baby Jesus sweep) so they will know they can easily beat teams with winning records.

The only game the Astros need to worry about is tonight's game.
