Save America's Pastime Act

Two congress members introduced an Act to limit minor-league baseball salaries

We a load of shit .

There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

Yes, we all are but that legislation is even shittier. Afraid you're going to lose in court, just get Congress to amend the law.

Most are probably familiar with the lawsuit that has led to this legislation. If not, here's the thread from the Bus Ride that discusses it.

The title and language of that bill are flat out embarrassing.

Most everything coming out of Congress nowadays is flat-out embarrassing. I'm beginning to believe that over the last 200 years we've actually legislated everything that needs legislating. Maybe Congress should take 10 years off.

I'm surprised we agree on anything political, but I think you're 100% dead on here.  I love how congressional productivity gets rated on number of bills passed.  Because obviously the more legislation we have, the better off we'll all be.

This is so stupid and so out of the realm of what they should be doing.
Everyone's talking, few of them know
The rest are pretending, they put on a show
And if there's a message I guess this is it
Truth isn't easy, the easy part's shit

Nowhere in the article does it mention that minor league salaries are paid by the Major League clubs (at least those with a PDC).  An increase in player salary does not come out of the minor league club's wallet.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

Does every minor league level need saving?  Does every team need 6-7 state side affiliates?  Does every team need two or three short season teams?  Is there really that big of a jump from low A to high A?  If getting players a living wage means we loose some lower levels, I am okay with that.  Paying them during spring training and instructs should also happen.

It will mean that some players never get a shot at pro ball.  99.99999% of those kids have no shot at advancing to AAA much less to MLB.

The bigger impact would be on indy ball more than affiliated ball.

This is the weird part to me; the bill seems to be supported by MLB, but the indy teams are the only ones who would actually benefit.  Upping the MiLB salaries would be a drop in the bucket for MLB teams.

The one change, that would benefit everyone the most is food.  You read and hear stories of players eating canned tuna, PB&J, and fast food every day because that is all they can afford.

NCAA sports departments are spending big bucks to improve athletes nutrition, full time dietitians and state of the art dining facilities.  Meanwhile MLB is handing out $20 a day on the road and $0 when players are at home and their players are eating McDonalds and Pizza buffets.

Who treats their potential future assets like that?  Surely not the thoroughbred breeder much less the dairy cow farmer.  MLB owners on the other hand...

It is beyond shortsighted to have your potential multi million dollar investments living like this.  They ought to have a training table in every clubhouse.  The impact of feeding athletes well, in terms of performance and mental well being would be well worth the investment.

BP ran a study that said it would cost a major league franchise something like $2.5M/yr to implement this - a cost that would be recouped if even on player turned into a major leaguer because of it.  Several teams went ahead with developing programs following that study.
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

I'd have to check (it was in the book "The Only Rule Is It Has to Work") but I recall the Indians and Rays on the list.

I read that and remember thinking, "Huh, I wonder which teams?" and there not being any list.
