Nice job by Fiers to stand there and watch a grounder to 1B instead of covering the bag. 1-0 Rangers, runners at the corners no outs

Quickly 1-0 after a Profar triple And some dick stepping. I didn't miss this crap. Fucking Rangers.

Now 1st and third nobody out. Every Ranger is Ty Cobb when they play the Astros.

Only against the Rangers can you get such an absurd bounce on a wild pitch.

I am fucking done with Fiers. For a while I thought he was a good pitcher. But now I'm all for sending his ass to the bullpen, or the waiver wire. Give me Feldman, Devenski, Feliz, Musgrove... just no more Fiers pitching important innings.

Astros starters have had quite a few shitty first innings this year. We'll know how this game will go down in the second. This team can dig out of a 3-0 hole no problem.

Well, I don't have a lot of confidence in this team scoring a runner from third with no outs.  They can score runs, but apparently not that one.  I was hoping that Gonzalez would have been able to get the ball to the outfield.  How bad that we almost hope for a double play in order for a run to score.

Statistically (and visually) worse than 2015 Jon Singleton. Let that sink in for a bit.

Castro hit that one with authority.

Too bad about Springer. I feel kind of bad about that because I moved him into my starting lineup for the week in a fantasy league, and I can't swap him out until next week. So I imagine that we're going to be treated to a week's worth of suck.

When I drafted my team I was actually trying to compete. If I had been thinking, I would have drafted all Rangers. Of course, then the baseball gods probably would have pushed me into first place, just to make the experience miserable. As it is, I'm in last place.

With a 2-1 win la Marea Roja take a commanding three point lead in their group. I'm not all that bright so it only just now dawned on me that a draw in tonight's Chile-Argentina match would be an outSTANding result.

Rangers playing like the poor defensive team they are. Outside of Beltre and Andrus on the left side, and maybe the rookie in right, they're kind of shaky.

The other day I got somewhere where I could check in on the game and I pulled up At Bat and brought up the box score. I knew that Gomez was in the lineup and I specifically wanted to know how many times up to that point he had struck out. As I was looking at his line the screen refreshed and his line changed to one hit, one run, one rbi. I sat there blinking at it in total disbelief.

I think Feliz may come back out for 7. Then you've got Sipp/Neshek for 8, with Harris clean up any mess they might make. And if they make none, Harris gets 9.

That's the way I'd play it. But I'm a cold-hearted bastard, and Hinch may not want to send that message to Gregerson.

I didn't like the back to back change call there on 2-2 from Castro, but Feliz gases him on 3-2.

Feliz's motion got a little jerky in the beginning of the inning, but then he settled down and got smooth again and just let things flow.

Gregerson getting it done.

Great route by springer prevents a lead off extra base hit, too.

I had to head back to the hotel from the bar where I was because the bar has DirecTV and the rain froze the transmission completely. Which was a surprise because I had it on authority that rain never impacts DTV signal.

Anyway, I'm watching both games now.

He never should have held a bat in the 9th. The Astros give an inch the Rangers take a mile.

You had it on authority that rain *rarely* impacts a PROPERLY INSTALLED DirecTV dish's signal.

I have it on authority that Carlos Correa may be the greatest player of all time.

Hard to believe the Astros would put themselves in a must win situation by early June, but tomorrow you have it.

Astros starters have had quite a few shitty first innings this year. We'll know how this game will go down in the second. This team can dig out of a 3-0 hole no problem.

I would like to see the collective 1st inning ERA of Astros starters.

According to this:

 https://www.teamrankings.com/mlb/stat/1st-inning-runs-per-game

They're only the 6th worst in the league. Seems worse somehow.

Right before Giles delivered that pitch I was hoping it was a 99 mph high and inside heater. So that was about as extreme a letdown as was possible there.

I guess that would translate into a 5.58 first inning era? I'm a musician so excuse my math skills...

Eta: shit 5.40. I looked at the wrong team.

Shit. Fuck. This will be the last time I do anything like this... I'll leave the stats to people that know what they're doing.

That category was for the offensive numbers.

This:

https://www.teamrankings.com/mlb/stat/opponent-1st-inning-runs-per-game

Puts the Astros 29/30 in first inning runs allowed at .78 per game. Good for a lofty 7.02 era. That's more like it. Only Minnesota is worse at .79.

Giles just said he thinks the Astros have better talent than the Rangers and shouldn't be losing to them all the time.
Except for starting pitching, I agree.

I went into last night's game thinking that was a must-win. Easily the least talented starter the Rangers would throw out this series even if he does own Houston. Too bad we had our #5 facing him.

This team is sorely lacking an ace. It feels like this Rangers boolshit is only going to stop when someone comes out and shuts them down for nine innings. Too bad we don't have one of those.

I'd like to see a concerted effort to place a ball in Dipshit Odor's earhole.  I'm sick of getting beat by that little prick.

I don't get the point of this.  We hit him then they turn around and hit our guy, etc, etc.    Odor maybe a little prick.  The Rangers might have long since eclipsed the Cubs as far as hated teams.  But no drilling of Odor is going to change the scoreboard.  The Astros need to go out there and beat the hell out of them on the scoreboard.  Mercilessly run up the score is perfectly okay.  That means stealing a base up by 7, not pulling the starter, etc.  Make a statement that they will no longer be the punching bag anymore.  I don't see how drilling Odor does this.

I can't stand Odor. But damn, that dude plays good baseball against the Astros.

Since Berkman and Oswalt used to terrorize the Reds, what current players on the Astros play like HoFers against one particular team?

Getting him off the fucking outside corner of the plate for one thing. He is nice and comfortable in the box.

I haven't seen a Houston pitcher move an opposing batter off the plate all year - or last year for that matter.

They refuse to do it. It's all outside all the time. If I faced the Astros I'd pretty much stand on the plate and smash those pitches just off the plate.

I don't think this is accurate. Certainly the RHPs pitch inside on LH batters, and Keuchel pitches inside on RH batters a fair amount. Maybe they don't pitch in to same-side batters very much, but I'm not sure.
