Single and a walk...first two Astros reach...
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

T1:

Altuve singles to RF
Springer walks, Altuve to 2B
Correa...3-0...3-1...3-2...singles to RF, Altuve scores, Springer to 3B
Rasmus pops up to shallow CF, runners hold
Correa steals 2B
Gattis punches out at a pitch that bounces in front of the plate, 2-3 on the putout
Moran...first Major League at bat...strikes out swinging at a pitch in the dirt.  Latos didn't even have to throw anything close to the plate.

Astros get a run...lead 1-0

Why would you ever throw these guys a pitch anywhere but in the dirt?

I'd never throw Gattis a strike.  Ever.

B1:

Eaton grounds to 3B, but the shift...no one is there...single, tries to stretch it, Kemp noodles one to 2B, but it's in time...score 7-4
Rollins doubles to RF on the first pitch
Abreu singles to RF, Rollins scores
Frazier walks, Abreu to 2B
Cabrera grounds into 4-6-3 double play

After one...1-1

First four batters reach, but Kemp's arm and a DP ball limit the damage to one run.

Nice play by Altuve to start that double play.

It would be nice to get more than 5 innings out of the starter after last night's extra-innings game, but that's not looking likely at this point.

Castro's ability to draw walks, given his limited ability to hit the baseball, is pretty impressive.

Not to mention the blazing speed on the basebaths, as evidenced by his scoring on that bleeder through the left side.

Astros are 2 for 11 w/RISP and 21 LOB...through six innings.  I know they've got a 4-run lead, but this game should be about 12-1.

Nice job by Fister to limit the damage.  He had a little bad luck on the bunt, and then the triple that hit the post and bounced away from Springer.  Good job keeping it there.

It bounced a couple of times.  Hit rather softly.  Frazier was in normal position.  If that ball gets by my third baseman, I'm pissed.

Walked Kemp on four, none close.  Walked Altuve on five, only the 3-0 fastball was close.  Springer's hacking at a pitch at his ankles.  Jennings throws 10 pitches, nine balls, one strike, walks two and gets out of the inning.

I think it was hit harder than that. Frazier had to take a step forward to touch third, then throw to second, and Springer was still out by a step at first. It was hit harder than you think.

I think Olerud, like Moran, was a skinny, lanky white guy with below-average power who looked more like a future mugging victim than a baseball player. I think that's the connection Ashby couldn't get past.

I think Olerud, like Moran, was a skinny, lanky white guy with below-average power who looked more like a future mugging victim than a baseball player. I think that's the connection Ashby couldn't get past.

He was. And to make him more nerdy he wore a batting helmet when playing the field. I think he had a head injury or something. He had a pretty swing though and maybe that is what Ashby is getting at or just the physical appearance. I see that resemblance.

From age 23 to 33, Olerud hit .305. 895 OPS and averaged 20 homers and 95 RBIs.   Not really a good comp for Moran.
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

Are you insane?

I assume that's a rhetorical question.

Are you insane?

You act like having 4 boys under 6 in a 1,200 square foot apartment in Manhattan is a crazy idea.

My favorite (apocryphal) Olerud story:

Quote
In spring training 1999, Rickey Henderson of the Mets was reunited with first baseman John Olerud, who had been his teammate with the Blue Jays six years earlier. As most people know, Olerud had an aneurysm in college, which required brain surgery. So to protect his head, he was allowed to wear a helmet in the field. As the story goes, Henderson was talking to Olerud one day, noticed the helmet and said “You know, when I played in Toronto, we had a guy who wore a helmet.”

“Rickey,” said Olerud, “that was me.”

I can't imagine having four boys under six in a Gatsby style mansion set on 50 acres. And if your four are anything like my one, and I'm sure they are, you'll need to tie them together like an Alaskan dogsled team just to keep them from lighting out into all four cardinal directions once you hit the avenue.

By that standard, no successful major leaguer is a "good comp" for a prospect. But yes, Olerud-type offense is obviously a best-case scenario for Moran (20 homers in Olerud's day I consider below-average for a 1B).

Mainly, though, it's the lanky/nerdy similarities.
