On the bright side, the Astros have one hit off Jesse Hahn.

Bottom of the fifth.
Devenski on the hill.
Red dick grounds out to second.
Chris with a K Davis flies out to right field.

Top of the 6th

Good ol' Preston Tucker grounded out second to first.
Louie Malbuena works the count 3-2, before becoming Hahn's fifth strike out victim.
Jason Castro lines a high fastball in to left center for a single.
Altuve grounds out third to first.

still 2 -0

Astros half of the 7th

Hahn is pitching a gem.

Springer grounded out, third to first.
Correra hits a stand-up double off the CF wall.
Rasmus grounds out second to first. Correra advances to third.
Gattis draws a two out walk.

Pitching change, Axford in for Hahn.

Gomez, by the way, isn't out of the lineup because he's a dumbfuck but because of strained ribs. Without the injury I have to assume the team would have been all too happy to run him out there again today.

Reddick seems to be a fairly common name. You never hear of anyone named Bluedick or Greendick though.

Props to Devenski and Feldman: they did a nice job today. Devenski made a bit of a mess out of the 2nd inning, but he worked his way out of it, which was good to see. The hitters seem to have the general air of a group who don't give a fuck.

6-4-3 with the bases loaded to end it.

This team can only aspire to be a traveling horseshit show.
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

I was 100% certain that Gattis was going to hit into a double play. So much so that although I knew it was impossible I was hoping Hinch would pinch hit for him. Think of it, pinch hitting for your DH in the ninth with the bases loaded. Yet the results could not have been worse. Or more predictable.

This is still a bad baseball team.
This has been a bad baseball team since Ike, and it will remain a bad baseball team for the foreseeable future.
They're likely still two or three years away from (sustainable/non-fluke) contention, even if Luhnow makes nothing but good choices going forward.

They started the year with Altuve, Correa, Springer, Rasmus, Keuchel, McCullers, a handful of capable relievers.... and the other two thirds of this roster is going to have to be completely turned over before the team is really ready for prime time.

Lowrie would look good on this team right now. And probably good for another win or two. He could play 3rd.

so can Marwin, but they keep running out Valbuena.
