Why do they refuse to play Marwin
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

White needs to find some bench time.

So does Valbuena.  I wonder if the thought process is that Marwin gives them more options for later.

Valbuena's got a .382 OBP over the last two weeks. He should probably lead off so Altuve can drive him in.

White's been making Carlos Gomez look like Ty Cobb.  He's the last guy I want to see at the plate.  I don't expect him to stay in the big leagues much longer.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

Finally, White raps a line drive single.  He had short slumps in the minors, nothing this long though.  I think he'll be fine in the long run though

Got to make them pay for forgetting the number of outs.  Gomez hit into a sure DP, but Cano jogged across second as if that was the third out

This team is a total goat rodeo. The Cy Young winner on the mound in a situation where they really need a win and they're getting pounded, shut out. What has to happen before there are serious changes? How bad does it have to get before something happens? It's early, sure, but this team made the post season after a magical start (with Marisnick playing out of his mind) and a non-repeatable season from Keuchel) and I think that what we've seen since is about who they are. Correa is not a fit at short. Where does he go? Third? By the end of the year I can see an infield of Correa, Bregman, Altuve and Moran. Maybe Moran at first. Maybe Bregman at third to start. Correa won't stick at short unless he gets a lot better, which he might, but he doesn't look like a shortstop.

There are also some options in the outfield. Luhnow is stubborn and will stick with Gomez apparently no matter what he does. Hell, for all I know the boy wonder will sign him to an extension this season.

But how bad does it need to get before things change significantly? If Luhnow is serious that Giles' problems are largely bad luck then just how delusional is he?

I wonder if there's any chance that Morey and Luhnow both get fired in the same year. That would be like taking a giant shit and not having to use hardly any toilet paper.

This feels like the low-point of the season. The Astros trailing the Mariners 9-0 in a game started by Keuchel. And Boy Wonder making an error opening the floodgates. Can it get any sorrier? Oh,  wait. Eric Kratz is coming on to pitch.

Silver lining: at least it was from the back-up catcher and not a member of the pitching staff. Which wouldn't haven't surprised me at this point.

Boy, this Kratz isn't fooling anybody.

When I was a kid I had a friend who was a pitcher. I was invariably the catcher on every team. It started when I was six or seven and I was one of two or three guys who could occasionally catch the ball. I should never have tipped my hand.

Anyway, this guy Mike, he had terrible vision and I remember him always out there on the mound squinting at me. He wasn't necessarily trying to get the signs, you understand, he was basically just trying to get me into some kind of focus.

There was a little hole in the fence between the field and the window above the fry station of the concession stand which was housed in a cinder block building. The scorers' area was on the second floor.

One year Mike and I were on different teams. My mom must have been doing her time in the concession stand because I was in there, too. Suddenly a baseball came crashing into the concession stand through that little hole. I knew without having to look that Mike was pitching. I looked anyway; he was. It's hard to explain how bad of a pitch it had to be to make it through the concession stand hole in the fence. Kratz's pitch was far worse.

Let's see... our ace (who's no ace on the road) gets pounded...we garner but three measly hits...our backup catcher tosses an inning...definitely time to sacrifice to Jobu. Up your butt, Jobu. Seriously, Jacksonian is correct: if this isn't the bottom, I don't want to see it. Serious changes are necessary. White needs to be sent out; Valbuena and Gomez need to sit; we need to acquire a real catcher; and we need a front line starting pitcher unless Devinski has an answer. Otherwise, the club is destined for the lower depths of the division.

Plus, there are so many holes on the team right now where do you start? Where does it end? Maybe this team just isn't what most of us thought it was. Last season was so much fun and nothing can diminish that but you take out one 10 game winning streak and  they've mostly been mediocre at best for quite awhile. A fire sale would be silly and adding one pitcher isn't going to turn the ship around either. I think they're stuck with what they've got for now.

You may be correct about being stuck with what we've got for now. However, it just depends upon how badly Crane wants to win now.

If he doesn't hand Strasburg a blank check this offseason, I am going to set something on fire.
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

If Crane and his partners want to win, I would prefer it if he drops some serious cash this offseason to add top tier pitching rather than continuing to trade the assets from the farm. The reality is that approximately five of the team's top ten prospects going into 2015 have been traded and the major league club has shown no improvement and may have regressed. I am not one to overvalue prospects, but the returns have clearly been diminishing no matter how one looks at it because they are less than zero.

Any deal now to land a high quality major leaguer will leave the upper levels of the minor league system effectively bare.

I'm usually not too big on big money free agents, but I think that I'd prefer that over giving away any more prospects.

I'm generally on board with you re: FAs. However, successful teams have to strike something of a balance between FA additions and developing talent from within. The pendulum for this squad has swung fully over to the direction of developing from within (I also include trades in this category since the team is swapping acquired and developed MiL talent for MLB players).
