Eovaldi just had a 9-strike, 1-2-3 1st inning against the Rangers. Is that allowed? I wonder what it feels like.

Gomez and Valbuena in the lineup again.   It's like Hinch is trying to lose.

Well, he couldn't start Marisnick.
He breezed him, one more time!

I'm not 100% convinced Hinch has final say on line-ups. Gomez can't really be as bad as he has been. Same with Valbuena. That being said, they are running out of time, the Astros can't go through May with Gomez and Valbuena contributing so little.

Holy shit! Gomez singles through the right side and drives in his 2nd run of the season.

The odds were not in favor of Gomez and Gattis hitting back to back singles to RF.

Seager hits a solo jack on a 3-1 fastball to put the M's back on top 2-1. Fister retires the next two on fly balls to center to send it to the 5th.

Valbuena grounds out to 2B

Kratz (!) drops down a bunt single to 3B (?!)

Altuve doubles down the LF line. Kratz holds at third, because Kratz.

Springer Ks swinging and obviously fails to plate a run with less than two down and runner on 3B.

Correa grounds down the line, and Seager makes a solid play to throw him out at first and prevent a run from scoring.

Run producers continue to fail to produce with RISP, and we head to the bottom, 2-1 M's.

I wonder if Correa is ever going to drive in another run.

Marte slaps a 2-0 pitch for a line drive single through the left side.

Aoki flies out to Gomez in center.

Seth Smith walks. Fister nibbling and not getting the calls. Runners on first and second.

Falls behind Cano 2-0 and gives up a single through the middle. 3-1 M's. Runners still on first and second.

Cruz wastes a few 2-2 pitches before grounding into a 4-3 DP (Altuve positioned left of the 2B bag)

Fister gives up another but escaped the jam. 3-1 M's

Colby Ks on a high and tight heater.

White strikes out looking at a FB on the outside corner.

Gattis chased a change in the dirt.

Walker strikes out the side.

Fister back out in the bottom of the sixth.

Lind bounces out to second.

Valbuena clanks a grounder off the bat of Seager but sticks with it and throws him out at first.

Ianetta walks on a 3-2 pitch. Fister walks his sixth, a career high.

Martin up. Ianetta advances to second on a curve that bounces off Kratz's chest protector (swinging strike). Martin walks. Runners on first and second. Fields getting loose.

Marte lines out to left to end the inning.

3-1 Seattle. Fister hasn't been sharp, but the Mariners deserve credit for not offering at anything off the plate. Headed to seventh.

Fields takes the mound.

Aoki bounces out to third.

Fields Ks Smith on a high heater.

Cano strikes out looking on a fastball on the outside corner.

Tidy inning from fields moves us to bottom seven, still down 3-1.

Peralta in to pitch. Walker's pitch count exceeded 110.

Altuve grounds out 6-3

Springer doubles down the left field line.

Correa drives in springer with a sharp grounder between first and second. 3-2 Mariners.

Colby works the count full. He strikes out looking. Correa was running on the play and is safe at second.

White flails haplessly at a fastball off the plate to end the inning.

Astros get one but strand another in scoring position. Heading to the bottom down 3-2.

Harris on.

Cruz grounds out to Altuve shifted over on the SS side of 2B.

Lind flies out to Gomez in left center.

Seager hits a sharp grounder to Altuve who fields it with the back hand and throws him out at first.

Three up, three down. One last shot for the good guys.

Cishek on to try for the save.

Gattis bounces out 5-3.

Gomez looked like he didn't have a prayer on the first two pitches but lines the 0-2 for a single to center.

Valbuena up. Gomez gunned down trying to steal second on a 1-1 pitch. Valbuena walks of course.

Tucker pinch hits. Marwin subs in for Valbuena at first.

Count runs full to Tucker. Marwin moving on the pitch. Tucker ropes one to right. Ball gets under the glove of Cruz, but he keeps it from going to the wall. Altuve up with runners on first and third.

Altuve grounds out meekly to short. Ballgame. 3-2 Mariners.

Alright, folks; we're 6-14. It's not likely that lineup changes will be made this week, but when? The starting lineup consists of one black hole after another, with the production of 3B, CF and C (as well as recent production at 1B) being putrid. In my opinion, the club is passionless right now. Hinch better do something to light a fire under the club, whether or not he has to get run. He just needs to address this lack of passion sooner rather than later. Maybe he just needs to convince the guys to go out and have some fun like they did last year. Ken Rosenthal echoed my sentiment on saturday that we're probably in the market for a 2-3 starting pitcher, which will raise more questions about the Giles trade.

As if there aren't enough questions about it.

Plus's from last night: Fister worked around his wildness, Correa drove in a runner in scoring position by going the other way on a 2 strike pitch, and Gomez got a 2 strike hit up the middle by not swinging for the fences.

The fire lighting might work if it's placed directly below Gomez's ass to prevent him from falling over when he swings.

I hear that Eshelman is highly regarded too, so we gave up two big league ready arms, a top draft pick and a prospect for a guy who can't get meaningful outs right now.

Gonna see which trade goes down as a bigger disaster, Gomez or Giles.    Giles at least has a legit chance to be a valuable long term asset.  Gomez at the most has 5 months left with the Astros, and his first 60 games have been a disaster.   Barring Gomez turning into 2004 Carlos Beltran, this is going to turn out to be an awful trade.

If its my money the answer is Gomez without any hesitation.  It wouldn't surprise me to see only Velasquez having a solid major league career in the Giles trade.  But it also wouldn't surprise me to see Hader, Phillips, and Houser having solid major league careers from the Gomez deal.

You're absolutely correct. I could see only one off the Giles trade pitchers panning out long-term, although I don't know which one it'll be. On the other hand, I could see two panning out in the Gomez/Fiers trade.

The time for turning shit around is now.  I woke up and saw another loss this morning and for the first time, seriously thought that the season might be toast.  The rational part of me knows there is still a ton of games left, but the rational part of me also expected them to start showing a pulse 10 days ago.

Having to spend life in baseball wasteland for 4 years, while Luhnow & Co accumulated draft choices/prospects makes getting chicken feed in return for them sting even more.

What has sobered me up about this team is learning that they are a sub-.500 club since the early run last year. That is not a small-sample size.

No I didn't.  I don't expect him to maintain that.

ETA: Even without Gomez I don't know that Santana would be on the Astros big league club right now.

Totally correct.  Santana was the perfect trade candidate.  The problem is apparently Gomez and Santana accidentally switched bat bags at the airport.

Curious, how much longer do y'all think they stick with Gomez and Valbuena?

The Luhnow show is on 790 AM tonight, 7PM   It is on IheartRadio for you out of towners.
There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

Just finding your note. Did you hear the show? Any nuggets to share? Luhnow is pretty telling about what he is thinking.
