Not terribly shocking to see Tucker back in there, but above Gomez is.

Would it be terribly bad to sit Springer/Gomez to give Marisnick a start?

Marisnick was such a big part of the early season success last year, I'd like to see him too.

Well, sitting both of them would be unwise. Marisnick is a great defender, but asking him to cover two positions is a bit much.

T1:

Escobar grounds the first pitch to SS...6-3
Moustakas...3-0...3-1...3-2...doubles to RF as Springer was shifted way into CF...can o' corn if Springer's in normal position.
Cain strikes out swinging
Moustakas moves to 3B on a passed ball
Hosmer strikes out swinging

0-0

B1:

Altuve...two strikes called in his eyes, then doubles to RCF
Springer...quickly 0-2...whiffs on a ball 8 feet off the plate
Correa grounds out 4-3, Altuve to 3B
Rasmus...0-2 swinging at two pitches that bounce in front of the plate..takes strike three at the belt.

Leadoff double wasted...no score after one

Why not have Springer bunt?  Something's gotta give.

Jeezus, Springer.

The last at bat last night, and the first tonight...Springer looks like he'd rather be anywhere getting a root canal than at the plate.

Before the game, they were raving about how Springer is hitting .500 the last four games.

I do not profess to be great at analyzing stats, but in his last four games he's had 16 at bats and gotten 6 hits.  I also am not the greatest at math but that is only .375.

Morales doubles off the LF wall
Gordon with a soft liner to 2B, Morales stays at 2B
Perez pops out F2 in foul ground on the first pitch
Infante grounds out 6-3

Nice job by Feldman to work around the leadoff double

No score

He didn't seem like he was on that much of a tear.  I was pleasantly surprised he was hitting .375 in the last 4 games anyway.

One great thing about baseball is that even teams that are out of it will try win games, especially if they have playoff implications.  If I was a Utah fan I'd be pissed, but that's the NBA.

Playing young guys isn't "throwing games".  Jazz fans have no one to blame but the Jazz.  Worry about your own team, not who the other team is playing.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

The recent rockets first round picks:
Dekker
Capela
T. Jones
Royce White
Jeremy Lamb
Mirotic
Marcus Morris
Patrick Patterson

I'd rather they play to win and perhaps get a sense for how far away they are from a championship thanks to a smackdown by the Warriors. They need an overhaul, which I expect will come. Draft picks can be acquired when everyone on the team other than harden is on the trade block.

Making the playoffs should be a goal, being a lottery team should not.  It's pretty simple in my mind.

Perez flies out F8
Infante, who appears to be the greatest hitter in history...doubles to LF
Orlando grounds out 4-3, Infante moves to 3B
Escobar grounds back to the mound...1-3

No score

I'd rather they play to win and perhaps get a sense for how far away they are from a championship thanks to a smackdown by the Warriors. They need an overhaul, which I expect will come. Draft picks can be acquired when everyone on the team other than harden is on the trade block.

Building a team around Harden is crazy, IMO. If someone wants him, unload him. Get rid of Morey also.

Tucker grounds right into the shift on what should be the 5.5 hole...5-3
Gomez strikes out swinging at a pitch that would have hit him in the face had he not ducked while swinging
Valbuena walks, flips bat
Castro carved up looking on three pitches

Still scoreless through five

Playing young guys isn't "throwing games"
Yeah, but that's not what they're doing.  They've been "resting" players because of draft considerations.

They will never sniff a championship with Harden, a team leader who holds defense in contempt. This year is a pretty significant data point. Might as well cut bait now while some feel he is a top five player.

So... last year's playoffs didn't happen?

They were two or three missed shots from making the finals, where they'd have run over the Cavs.

BTW, Royals get a couple of hits then a throwing error on Feldman...1-0, bases loaded and one out.

Don't be. You know, those freaks got all atwitter not too long ago that someone had found archaeological remains of a Nephite city and then real scientists said, Uh, no. It reminded me that basically the entire archaeology department at BYU is dedicated to finding evidence of the Nephites and the Lamanites. It's like having a PhD in mathematics and spending your career trying to prove the Time Cube.

Another annoying thing is that the BFiB get to believe that they live in the Garden of Eden.

T6:

Moustakas lines out F9
Cain singles past a diving Valbuena
Hosmer singles to RCF, Cain to 3B
Morales bounces back to the mound, Feldman throws it 30 feet over White's head into RF, Cain scores, Hosmer to 3B on the TE1
Gordon gets intentional walk to load the bases
Perez with a sac fly F7, Hosmer scores
Infante pops out F6

But two unearned runs...2-0 Royals

B6:

Altuve homers to LF...that ball got out in a hurry
Springer strikes out swinging at pitch in the other box...he must have somewhere else to go, he has no interest whatsoever in playing baseball
Correa flies out F7
Rasmus walks
White lines a single to RF, Rasmus to 2B
Tucker quickly down 0-2...grounds to SS, rolls up Escobar's arm...Rasmus to 3B, White to 2B on the E6
Gomez...tries to bunt a pitch in the other box...WTF?...eventually works the count full...check swing at a ball in his eyes, rolls out to 2B.

Astros cut it to 2-1

Gomez's at bat there may be the worst I've ever seen at the professional level.

Astros cut it to 2-1
Gomez couldn't come close to laying down a bunt as awesome as Colby did the other night. I shot beer out of my nose when Colby did that, it was so awesome.

I was going to correct your description but then I remembered that I know Arky and that the look that registers somewhere between concerned and constipated for him does in fact qualify as excitement.

I'm not sure where you're going with this but a fedora is more tango than reggaeton. More Carlos Gardel than, say, Residente of Calle 13 who, as you surely know, came out in support of Barney the other day.

I can't remember seeing Residente wearing a hat of any kind but if he does I am quite certain that it is a baseball hat work backwards.

I don't know what a stingy brimmed hipster douchebag lid is but I am firmly in favor of a nice porkpie. Think Popeye Doyle.

Also, I don't think there's any place in the Venn diagram where hipster and douchebag overlap. To me they are two distinct and distinctly separate things.

B7:

Hochevar in for the Royals

Valbuena flies out to shallow CF
Castro triples to deep RCF
Marisnick in to pinch run for Castro
Altuve....infield in...lines one past a diving SS, Marisnick scores and hustles into 2B as Cain lollygags in CF...ruled a double
Springer...still completely disinterested...quickly down 0-2...half ass whiffs at a pitch in the dirt

Curry, Lebron, Durant, Davis, Westbrook. But top 10 certainly, and your point remains.

No Leonard??  Oh well.

I'm 80% sure I just saw Arky. It was after the 2-2 pitch. Someone rewind and see.

If it was a guy expecting Gomez to make an out, I agree it was him.

Fitting that Giles is from Albuquerque because so far he's represented the dichotomy between Walter White and Heinzenberg.

I Google Translated this and it came up:
The hit pa'l pussy, I mamaguevo!

The second entry quotes Jeremiah 17:5, so I'm really confused now.

I'll never forget the time a Venezuelan girl called me a mamaguevo. I don't remember what I'd done to deserve her ire but I can imagine. Anyway, it literally means ball sucker but in practice it's used as cocksucker. It's something that only venes use, really. A Panamanian or a Colombian would have different ways to say the same thing. It's sad to admit but the kings of profanity are certainly the Mexicans. Mexico City slang is unreal in its depth and complexity. But my people are not too far behind. We draw from all over the place. One thing you hear a lot is focop or focot, which comes from fuck up or fucked up and means basically the same thing.

I am a big fan of Junot Diaz, by the way. I lived in a Dominican neighborhood in Brooklyn and I feel like I know those people a little bit. They saved my ass one night when the Dominican bodega on my corner was miraculously still open at 2 AM one Wednesday, hosting a profoundly drunk group of Irish firefighters from the station down the block. I had been chased down Driggs Avenue by a hopped up pimp with a pistol who thought I was doing I have no idea what. It's one of those little miracles that happen. I fell into the bodega with obvious relief followed immediately by the crazed pimp who was gradually subdued by the drunk firemen and the Dominicans serving as their bartenders.

So, the Giles experiment seems to be a bust. Good thing they didn't give up very much for him. I wonder what Arky looks like now.

1, Carlos Correa is really good at baseball.
2.¡El Tiburón!
3, Devenski? I want to know more...

And aside from that, not very much. During this series it was painfully apparent who the grownups in the room were.

1, Carlos Correa is really good at baseball.
2.¡El Tiburón!
3, Devenski? I want to know more...

And aside from that, not very much. During this series it was painfully apparent who the grownups in the room were.

Feldman's pitching looked great.  The bullpen looked great except for Giles, and Giles was interesting.

Devenski made it to successfully through AA as a starter on a devastating changeup.  HIs fastball in the past was 89-91 range.  Apparently recently improving to the 90-93 range.  But if out of the bully it sits at 94-96, then damn, they didn't need Giles.

Reason why the bus riders follow this guy is he has had some games/stints that somebody like Appel was suppose to have.

Started last year at AA with 27 scoreless
and of course the 7 inning one hit outing he had in the AAA championship game last year

I got a picture here.  bad panama, cornrows, Tevas, bowtie, fanny pack . . . I'm owning it.  Next year, opening day, with a Rasmus jersey.  Be there or be square.

I'm holding you to this.
Don't think twice, it's alright.

Who wears the Rasmus jersey, you? I'm getting one made that reads Awebao. And I'm there. As long as Budgirl agrees to go sprinting up the stairs whenever Daniel gets loose and makes a run for it.

I'm not scared of Daniel.  As long as I can see him, it's all good.

Excellent GZ tonight. Good to see Astrobabe. Being a wearer of both fedoras and bow-ties, I enjoyed that discussion.

Feldman pitched much better tonight. I still don't trust him to be able to consistently deliver for a team in a playoff hunt. I hope that he proves me wrong. Tonight was a great effort by Feldman.

That slider that Giles hung was a AA slider. If that's all his slider has, I'd leave it in my back pocket and continue to work on it in the bully.

Situational hitting continues to be a problem.

He threw some devastatingly good sliders prior to the hanger though.

Damn, Devenski tossing it 95.

With his offspeed stufff, he's making a fantastic guy out of the pen.

I missed his inning.  95 with that change would be something special.

Remember when we traded 2 top prospects for a home run dispenser? That was awesome.

I don't know if Mr. Happy saw the entire inning or just saw the highlight of the homer, but I'm guessing the latter, and in that case it would certainly be easy to be very disappointed. But the AB against Morales was really eye-opening: he threw two sliders that just disappeared on the inside part of the plate, breaking so hard they almost hit Morales in the back foot, sandwiched around a change-up that Morales was so far in front of that he could have hit it with his follow-through. If he can harness that stuff consistently, he'll be untouchable.

I agree with you about Giles' stuff. It's also very unfortunate that Giles has been off while VV has been on fire. Giles will figure it out.

Daaaaaaang. Good to see the same cast of characters here. I got transferred up to DC for a few years but never stopped following our boys.

I was impressed that my old password still worked. Well done, OWA. Thanks for not forgetting about me.

I'm pretty sure OWA works here in DC.  :^P

Good to have you back!
