I assume they just want to get him back into the lineup.

Royals with runners at the corners and nobody out in the 1st...
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

B1:

Altuve works the count full...draws a leadoff walk
Springer singles to LF, Altuve to 2B
Correa grounds into 5-4-3 double play, Altuve to 3B, as Springer slides 10 feet in front of 2B
Rasmus doubles to RCF, Altuve scores
White singles to RF, Rasmus scores
Gomez...3-0...walks on four pitches, White to 2B
Gattis, the former Caveman...first at bat of the year...strikes out swinging on three sliders

But the Astros get a couple back...after one...3-2 Royals

There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

In hindsight yes, but it's tough to do in the moment when you see that ball hit the ground.

Yeah, I'm not faulting him for his reaction, because you're both absolutely right: it's just too weird a play, and it's entirely understandable that he would be flummoxed for a moment. I wonder if the second baseman would have even been there if Springer hadn't gotten picked off of 1st and there were runners on 1st and 2nd for Rasmus.

Lot of chances, but once again...failure to put balls in play is gonna kill them.

Hochevar's stuff is just filthy.

I wonder if they will say that about Appel in time. Both 1/1's that struggled out of the gate.

I have no idea who the hell Katz is but he's better defensively than Castro and it's not close.

Jake needs to start tomorrow in center.

Springer is a wreck.  Who would have thunk that Wade Davis would throw a 3-2 fastball with 2 out in the 9th?  Springer was completely shocked.

Are you fucking kidding me Springer? You know he has to throw the fastball since that's the only pitch he can locate and you just watch it?

Especially on such a meatball.  It's not like that ball was on the corner.  He was just completely gobsmacked that he got a 3-2 fastball.

Davis showed a lot of respect for Altuve throwing that 3-1 slider off the plate. He threw a heater right down the middle 2-1 to Springer and then again on 3-2.

Another game you have to win.  When you look back in October, 2 game out, this one will hurt.

He should have been sitting dead red because Davis threw maybe one breaking pitch for a strike all inning and Springer has to know he doesn't want to see correa with the winning run on second base. Total failure in his approach.

Exactly. If he throws you the hammer 3-2 to potentially put the winning run in scoring position, then hey, give it up.  But you simply cannot be caught off guard by a center cut fastball.  Abject failure of an at bat.
