Some cool first names in the lineup for the Braves--there's a Jace (Peterson), a Mallex (Smith), an Adonis (Garcia) and an Ozzie (Albies).

Altuve smacks double off the righty Teheran to lead off the B1. Springer skies ball to LF and Altuve moves up to 3rd on the out. CC flies out to deeeeeep CF to score Altuve. Valbuena walks on 4 pitches. Gomez with the 3rd FB of the frame to end it.

Cotts whiffs lefty Smith to start B3. But Bourn hangs in and follows with single to right. Bourn moves to 2nd on the GB to Marwin by Albies. Freeman goes to left with the 2-run dinger to tie up the game. GB by Garcia to 3rd ends it.

2 of the 3 lefties with hits off Cotts in the inning.

2-2 going to B3.

Gomez with two bagger off LF wall. Eury Perez pinch runs. Stassi hits into shift and grounds out to left side. White sharply hit ball to left side, scoring the run and then hustles into 2nd (scorer eventually rules it a double and White now 2-2 in the game on 2 hard hit balls). Marwin walks to put runners on 1st and 2nd. Marisnick whiffs swinging. Altuve pops a double down the RF line. Springer grounds to SS who then airmails throw to 1st, scoring Nolan Fontana (who had PR for Altuve).

6-2 with 2 outs in B4. Volstad leaves.

Minor leaguer righty Mauricio Cabrera on to pitch for Braves.

Mr. White flies to CF. Marwin yanks ball to right for his 2nd longball* of the spring, Tucker pops out to 2nd. Fontana walks. Aplin dribbler to 1B ends frame.

*14th homer for Astros in just 8 games. Pitchers have allowed just one (Freeman's today off Cotts).

#1 overall pick Dansby Swanson flies out. Albies whiffs. Former spring training Astro Nate Freiman takes Straily deep. Lavarnway Ks.

Colin Moran leads off B7 with a groundout. Swanson boots the GB at second base to allow Tucker to reach. WP advances him to 2B. Fontana grounds out, Tucker now on 3rd with 2 outs. Alright!--Aplin with the bunt up the right side to score the run and get himself aboard. Now 9-5 with the pitching change.

Kevin Chapman on for stros.

Chase d'Arnaud FO. Rio Ruiz (who entered the game 3 for 9) scalds a ball that Tucker again doesn't look very good on but Ruiz ends with just a single as he pulls up lame (leaves game). Blake Lalli flies out. Alfredo Gonzalez (in for Stassi) muffs pitch from Chapman but lasers throw to 2nd but doesn't get the runner moving up on the play. Again, oohs and aahs over Gonzalez's arm. Castro walks to put runners on 1st and 2nd, two out. GO ends inning.

9-5 Astros going to B8.

Maybe I should have said more versatile.  By the time Billy was here, he had lost the range to play SS on a regular basis.  Marwin you feel comfortable playing, 3B, SS, 2B, 1B, LF.   Billy was solid at 3rd and OF.   Marwin is also a switch hitter.

Their numbers, at the same point in their career,s are pretty similar, though Marwin has hit for more power.

Another Marwin comp might be Ben Zobrist.

I know this may be sacrilege, but if memory serves, Barley Visgar got the better end of the Spiers tackle. Which, I mean, what kind of right fielder is on the lookout for a fan coming from behind him during a game?

I feel like Hampton might have kicked the shit out him in the huddle, though.

Let's go to the photos of the event and [ur=http://articles.latimes.com/1999/sep/25/sports/sp-13982l]the news story[/url].

Quote
"I looked down and saw blue jeans wrapped around my neck. I couldn't move, so I fell down backward trying to get him off me."

As Spiers and the fan tumbled to the ground and continued to wrestle, the entire Houston team raced to his rescue, with players joining in from the dugout and bullpen. Starting pitcher Mike Hampton began delivering kicks to Spiers' attacker.

"The good thing was he didn't have a weapon," Hampton said. "I always check right field before I deliver the first pitch. It's just a habit. I looked out there and saw the guy on Billy's back.

"It was a scary thing. My instincts just took over. My rage took over. I was pretty furious. I wanted to get him off my teammate.
Always ready to go to a game.
