I caught part of an interview of Nails today on the radio. Among his bizarre claims was that
A) he'd never read a single book in his life (told his then-roommate Billy Beane he shouldn't read all those books because it would ruin his eyesight for baseball) until he went to prison
B) he read 300 books in prison
C) during his playing days he spent $500,000 to hire private investigators to follow umpires and dig up dirt on them. He then dropped hints while in the batters' box implying that he would expose their dirt (gambling problems, affairs with women, affairs with men) if they didn't make calls in his favor.
Dykstra did lead the NL with 129 walks in 1993, and finished 3rd and 4th other years. Maybe he'd have led more often if he had been healthier... So anyway, that's a pretty fucking crazy claim huh?
