Most important game of the year tonight, and...
« on: September 17, 2015, 10:22:53 am »
Everyone is silent.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

Why comment?  Seems to me many people think it is a foregone conclusion the Astros are already out the race.

I'm trying to hold onto my optimism without listening to or reading the pessimists.  I think Lance McCullers kicks ass tonight because he got his beat down last time and won't let it happen again.

The Astros get these guys back at MMPUS next weekend. Nothing is fucked.

I'm looking for a little optimism myself.

Yeah, but if they don't win tonight, they get them back down at least three games, unless they get help.  The difference between being down 3 in the standings and being down 1 is huge...enormous, for that series.  Nothing is fucked, but there are only so many games left.

I can't see winning the division without a win tonight. I still think they will make the playoffs as the second wild card but my confidence/optimism is fading fast.

There's a fine line between optimism and taunting the baseball gods.

I suspect that McCullers will pitch well tonight. The problem is that he's going to have to do a lot more than just pitch well to win...

I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

we did some great stuff in the past, gave money to Austin Kearns, ate chili dogs, etc.  surely someone can come up with something worthy of this team.

If he came, like he did a decade ago, and told us it would be O.K., then it would be.
He breezed him, one more time!

At times like these I think back to something I learned in college.  It helped me through a lot of tough moments, and I think it may help some around here as we try to finish the season with a semblance of self-respect:

Douchebag! Douchebag!  Suck your mother's tit!
Cocksucker Motherfucker eat a bag of shit!
<Houston Astros> are the best, all the rest suck!
Rah Rah <Houston Astros> Rah Rah FUCK!!!!!

For full effect have someone shimmy up the nearest flagpole  and so that they reach the top and extend the bird at the conclusion while those on the ground return the favor.

I haven't lost confidence in this team either. I am aware of the BBG's eye though, and I have not yet confessed my wrongs here: I think I might have unintentionally taunted them. In McHugh's game, I had to leave the house shortly after the game started. I said to myself, "I hope it's 4-0 by the end of the inning so I'll have an inkling of how the game will go before I leave the house." Then I groaned and said, "4-0 in the Astros' favour! PLEASE!"

We all know what the score was by the end of that first inning.

Perhaps I am due some punishment?
