2015 MLB All-Satr Game

Man, the guys I watched growing up are really getting old. Mays, Aaron, Kofax, not Bench so much.

I loved how Nolan Ryan was one of the four for three different teams...

I'm surprised there were 27000 votes for Ausmus.

Dallas is looking sharp!   He seems to like getting staked to a lead early.   Astros should try that more often.

Joe Buck is an ass.  "Donaldson really helped out Keuchel."  He should, he's playing the game.  I think he wants the NL to win.

The other one I remember was that he was called out rounding second when he got hit with his own grounder.

I'm not very surprised that Fox was the network that decided that a Harold Reynolds rehabilitation project was a good idea.

Anyone have the score?  Inning?
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

Trout with the MVP (officially).   That guy had a carafe of coffee here in Cedar Rapids back in 2010.   Nice to see him doing well.

I liked Tom Verducci's sprinkling in of interesting factoids. For example, I didn't know that Mike Trout never swung at a first pitch in the minor leagues. It got me to thinking. How would you pitch a guy like that? Do you toss a BP fastball down the pipe and try to get ahead on a cheap strike? I'd be very hesitant to do that. He's too good of a hitter.

What I don't get is why more ML hitters don't swing at first pitch when the BA on the first pitch is so high. This taking all these pitches doesn't look, to me, like it is resulting in any great results for the hitters except to getting to the bullpen earlier. But wait, today's bullpens are no picnics unless you want a steady stream of 94 MPH guys.

I think you are discounting the fact that part of the reason why the BA on the first pitch is so high is because hitters are generally more selective on the first pitch.

That's probably true, but a good pitcher can catch a hitter loading up on a heater and pull the string on them pretty easily.

I think this is correct. I coached my teams to consider the first pitch like they would a 2-0 or 3-1 pitch. look for the pitch they want in the spot they want. if they do not get it, take the pitch.

This is damning with faint praise.  He still sucks.

As I recall, Reynolds was the color commentator the year Rice won the College Worlds Series (or maybe some other college world series where I had an interest as a fan), and it's the first time I really noticed him.  I remember how much I liked his empathy for the college players, and how well-prepared I thought he was to talk about a bunch of players who were outside his usual bailiwick.  I guess I've been inclined to like him since.

If you say things like "We're lucky these days, Jackie Robinson didn't debut until he was 28!" without context, you suck as an announcer.  Like, Ashby-level.
