Man, the guys I watched growing up are really getting old. Mays, Aaron, Kofax, not Bench so much.
at least you aren't.
Joe Buck is an ass.
Cool papa bell was so fast that . . .
he would turn out the lights and be in bed before it got dark?
Harold Reynolds - why you poor molten lead in your ears.
Dammit, I like Reynolds. I have such fucked up taste.
I like him too.
I liked Tom Verducci's sprinkling in of interesting factoids. For example, I didn't know that Mike Trout never swung at a first pitch in the minor leagues. It got me to thinking. How would you pitch a guy like that? Do you toss a BP fastball down the pipe and try to get ahead on a cheap strike? I'd be very hesitant to do that. He's too good of a hitter.
What I don't get is why more ML hitters don't swing at first pitch when the BA on the first pitch is so high. This taking all these pitches doesn't look, to me, like it is resulting in any great results for the hitters except to getting to the bullpen earlier. But wait, today's bullpens are no picnics unless you want a steady stream of 94 MPH guys.
I think you are discounting the fact that part of the reason why the BA on the first pitch is so high is because hitters are generally more selective on the first pitch.
Could be. But there is also a high % of FBs.
I also like Reynolds, and i think that he's improved a lot over time.
This is damning with faint praise. He still sucks.
I didn't say that he was good. I said that I liked him. He's become familiar.
