I agree. I generally start it and get bored. This format generally kept me interested.

Well done MLB

I saw that it was a different format, but I didn't want to stomach the possibility of watching that fathead cartoon character Berman screaming "back back back" all night.

What was different?

They canceled it?

Head to head bracket style and 4 minute clock.  It was over by 9:45, and the lack of pitch-taking + increased swing frequency made the entire thing more exciting.  Buzzer beater homers are awesome.  It also felt like Berman was somewhat muted compared to years past.  I really enjoyed it, and I used to hate the competition.

I never liked it on TV, but it was lots of fun when Mark and I watched it live in Houston.

I think the faster pace played a part in toning him down.  The pitcher would throw as soon a ball landed and it would be almost gone by the time he had finished a previous thought about the prior hit.

It was a great event for MLB.  Hometown player wins. Highlighted some young stars along with established ones.
Always ready to go to a game.

Does anyone remember a show back in the early '60s I believe that was a series with two ML stars going against each other in a HR contest?
It was just two contestants per show with a host. Seems like it was shot at a minor league park.

I do.  I believe it was filmed at Wrigley though (not too far off).

Yes, but that was Wrigley Field in L.A.  which did serve as a MiL park for the Los Angeles Angels and then, for one season, as the home of the A.L. Angels.

It only lasted one year, 1960 as the 45 year-old host died of a heart attack and they cancelled the show rather than find a new host.

I was there as well and the electricity when Berkman was swinging for the Crawford Boxes is something I won't soon forget

Ah yes, you are correct.  It's coming back to me now.

I remember watching reruns of it on WGN when I was a kid.

Speaking of Wrigley, I visited Catalina Island a few years back off of the California coast and learned that the Cubs trained there for a few years. Wrigley owned the island and had a ball park built which is now gone.
