There was a power hitting catcher for Baltimore who's name I don't recall that set the record for fewest RBI (40) with at least 20 home runs. Valbuena's pretty close to that with 31 and 17.

Carter has whatever the opposite of killer instinct is. The potential of infinite power is completely offset (for me) by the fact he just doesn't even seem to care a little bit. Huge moment in the game and he just completely shits the bed.

The doesn't care idea has been floated frequently. Maybe he doesn't. But I doubt that seriously. He's not so freakishly talented that he can get by not caring while holding down a job as a major league player. No, he does not show his emotions. But I think he probably cares quite a bit; he just isn't very good.

I don't even know where this idea comes from. Conger is pretty awful at framing pitches. Where he got the reputation of being a good receiver is a mystery that rivals the Lost Colony of Roanoke.

Q is not the hitter Conger is, but Corporan is. They gave up prospects to get worse at a position that wasn't a particular problem. Corp was a perfectly acceptable backup catcher. Not one of Luhnow's smoother moves.

I never understood that trade either ,but Corporan is hitting .169/.240/.270 this year which is a lot worse than Conger's .213/.322/.427. Carlos Perez is at .264/.278/.379 all in 27 games each.

In the context that he was running full speed crashing into a wall. It wasn't an "ordinary effort" play, and far from a given that Miller catches it.

The problem with Conger is not his hitting, though it's nothing to write home about. The problem is he's awful defensively.
