What intrigues me is that now that Altuve's back in the lineup who is going to make sure that the paper cups are arranged in perfectly even stacks.

Seeing Altuve at the plate after Correa is visually jarring.

Yeah, see, no, not really - it looked like he assumed he wouldn't be sent and was sort of coasting into third when he picked up that he was being sent. At which point he turned on the jets.

It also involved Brandon Barnes, which means the throw couldn't break glass.

Yeah, he never really ran hard just sort of stiff-legged jogged. Brownie said he was told not to run hard today.

I think Brownie is pretty upset that Infante is the leading vote getter for the AL 2b spot.

Remember Jesus Alou being called out of the 1st base coaching box to pinch-hit a double vs. the Reds in '79 I think, to win a crucial game, and he patted Morgan on top of the head (ala Benny Hill w/the little bald guy) and Little Joe got pissed.....yeah,that was great.

Right. But they're not piling on Infante. They're just pointing out, over and over again, how sucky his stats are this year and what a tragic travesty it would be if he made the All-Star team.

How much pressure will Infante be under to decline the invitation? Or suddenly develop a debilitating injury?

Of course, but the piece Brown was quoting went on and on about how Infante is literally the worst offensive player in the major leagues. It was very direct and not at all diplomatic. That's why it was so unusual to hear a broadcaster relate it. At one point Ashby sort of gasped in surprise at how harsh the analysis was. It was harsh but obviously not at all unfair.

I think we all agree that if there are a couple of All Star worthy players and one guy has a more motivated fan base than the other then that's fair enough. But this is insane. It's time for anyone and everyone with a voice in major league baseball to say so, and that's what Brown did today, although of course he was quoting someone else. Plus, the ASG COUNTS.

If the All-Star team decision was based purely on seasonal stats, then Jason Kipnis is your second sacker. Dude's been on fire for just about the entire season. I see lots of him play up here, and he's pretty damn good. Ian Kinsler, who I also see a lot of, deserves honorable mention.

A player cannot simply decline to participate.  He has a contractual requirement to do so, if selected.  Only if he has an injury, and there are all sorts of requirements to document that, can he not participate.
