I don't follow these details closely enough, but has there been a previous lineup with no lefties.

Thanks.  I realized there were switch hitters in the lineup.  I meant with no lefties at the plate (this is assuming no switch hitter bats leftie against Sale, which is an assumption I'll take to the bank).

For those not a watching...pouring down rain in Chicago. Delayed, but expected to start later.

There's some of that Villar defense...fly ball bounces out of his glove, but inexplicably ruled a double.

Cabrera with a chopper back up the middle to plate a run...Sox take a 1-0 lead thanks to the iron bar in Villar's glove.

Marisnick saved us from watching villar try to handle that deep drive in the gap.  Runner on 1st would have certainly scored in that event.

It's rare when you're the worst glove on the infield AND in the outfield.

I'm sure Preston is happy for his brother...until he realizes that as soon as Kyle signs, he'll already have made ten times more money in his career than Preston has.

I thought that too, but then Preston is in MLB.  Kyle isn't and there isn't anything guaranteed.

His signing bonus is guaranteed.  He'll get roughly $4MM.  Preston's earned his $100,000 bonus, a couple years of piddly minor league salary and his pro-rated big league minimum up til now.

Villar leads off the 4th with a single
Altuve...right on a couple pitches...singles off the SS's glove, Cabrera bobbles it, Altuve to 2B, Villar to 3B on the E7...something cooking in the 4th.

Correa grounds to deep SS...called out....looks like we're gonna get a review...replay clear he beat the throw...

Umpire says...safe!!!  First Major League hit, first Major League RBI as Villar scores to tie it up!

Bases loaded...2 out...

Marwin grounds into FC, Conger out 6-4.

Astros leave the bases loaded, but get a run to tie it up 1-1

I agree. Some of these fairly egregious mistakes are getting overturned, and they seem to be able to do it pretty quickly. Maybe they ought to give the NFL some tips.

His cadence reminds me of Roy.  The delivery seems familiar as well.  The deep breath before each pitch seems to be Roy-esque, although Roy didn't bring the hands up over his head in the delivery.

Ground Control apparently doesn't care about strikeouts but you can't give the opposing team the majority of their outs via strikeout and expect to do anything positive with any consistency. A considerable percentage of the team's lineup on any given night is boom or bust. That might make you competitive in a weak division but no more. I'll be interested to know what moves GC makes in light of all this.

Maybe that's a long-winded way of wondering how much patience they will have with Carter.

I'm conflicted on this. Not in the value of a high strikeout lineup. I'm no fan, even if there is power in it. What I'm conflicted about is Luhnow's thoughts on this.  I don't think his draft reflects an easy tolerance of low contact bats, but his team construction sure does.

Ground Control apparently doesn't care about strikeouts but you can't give the opposing team the majority of their outs via strikeout and expect to do anything positive with any consistency. The strikeouts are starting to catch up to them.  You simply cannot continue to time and time again go through the heart of your lineup with RISP and your "RBI guys" fail to put a ball in play.  It is a huge, gigantic, glaring hole in their game.  Not to mention that the other team can get at least two outs an inning, often three, without even having to throw a strike.  The combination of pitiful plate discipline and huge holes in your bat is not a winning one.

The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.
