We're paying him a big league salary and he's chewing up AAA. What do you do here? How will this play out?

I assume they do nothing, and he stays in AAA unless someone gets injured.  He could be better than either of the people he might replace (Carter or Gattis), but I just don't know why they would mess with a clubhouse that is doing so well.  I suppose they could drop a reliever and bring him up, but that is also messing with success.

If Luhnow is discussing trades with people, I'm sure this 1B/DH logjam will come up.

How about packaging him with Villar and Santana for Hamels. That would be ironic.

A little too ironic.
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

In all seriousness it wouldn't be a bad basis for a trade.

Are the Phillies picking up some of Hamels' salary?

I'm all on board with the Astros trading Singleton because I don't know where he plays on this team - unless the Astros trade either Gattis or Carter.  And neither Santana nor Villar are irreplaceable.
Boom!

If the Astros believe Singleton has figured something out and still has a good chance to be a good #3-5 hitter, I hope they keep him. The likely core position players, going forward, are:

Altuve
Correa
Springer
Marisnick

who are all righty batters. In addition, either Gattis or Carter are likely to be the DH going forward, giving you a 5th RHB. Tucker, Castro or Conger, Valbuena and Lowrie are lefty or switch-hitters, but that's it - and they all carry question marks either with their bat or their health.

Yes, there's a number of promising LH hitters on the farm - Reed, Phillips, Fisher, Vazquez - but realistically, Singleton probably represents the best shot of any LH hitter in the organization right now at becoming a potent middle-of-the-order bat, and certainly the best shot at being that as soon as 2015 or '16.

Completely agree re keeping Singleton.
Often wrong, but never in doubt.

Haven't heard Bud Norris say much about Singleton this year...not much at all.  Cat got his tounge?

Has he had it since March?
