He was 70 years old. He always seemed older than he really was. I remember watching the Woodstock movie, he must a been only 24 but he seemed like an old guy even then. Leon Russell was that way too but not so much anymore. Mad Dogs and Englishmen.
Everyone's talking, few of them know
The rest are pretending, they put on a show
And if there's a message I guess this is it
Truth isn't easy, the easy part's shit

I am guessing that he was a longtime, heavy smoker.

I am guessing that he was a longtime, heavy smoker.

Most musicians from that era were smokers. And he was described all day yesterday as "raspy-voiced"

Yes, it is. It often goes to the brain or spine. And you don't have to smoke to get it although most do. My stepfather died of it and by time I knew him he hardly smoked although he smoked, says he, heavily in the army. He was a POW captured at Battle of the Bulge.

Mine too, although mine wasn't too bad thankfully.

Loved Joe Cocker. May he RIP.

Always enjoyed John Belushi's sketch of him. A little over the top but funny nonetheless.

I believe Cocker, like most celebrities, enjoyed the bit. It's considered kind of an honor to get parodied on SNL.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.
