All right, I admit it

I'm a Hunter Pence fan.  I read everyone of these I see, and enjoy them.

You would have to be a huge curmudgeon not to be a Pence fan.  Hell, I find myself saying "Hey, Houston's gotta eat!" at least a few times a month.

I had a brief interaction with him in either Lex or Salem back in the day.  He was room mates of one of the guys we had over when they were in Gville.  Pleasant, polite & funny guy. Have been a fan ever since.  Gotta love a big time athlete who doesn't take himself too seriously.
Always ready to go to a game.

This was always Kris's comment on Bagwell, that and his clothes.

The most interesting thing I've seen on Pence was about how a portion of his spine is fused.  He really does have an excuse for how he plays.

Pence always was what he was.  The big problem was the team marketing him as the next Biggio/Bagwell "face of the franchise".  That was an insult.

Yes. But there was so little else to wrap their arms around. Amazing how utter barren the farm was in that day.

Probably doesn't have much to do with his path to the ball, but apparently he can't throw any way but the way he throws, and it affects his batting and running as well. He may be goofy, but he's not just goofy.

So he's become the face of the Giants instead.  At least it's an improvement over Barry Bonds.

We must give JimR props for early ID of MadBum's greatness.  Here his report from ST in 2009.

Quote
Check out last year's stats of Giants LHP Madison Bumgartner. He came into a game we saw and looked very good against the big boys. In addition, Pablo Sandoval is tearing the cover off the ball for SF, and a minor league FA named Jesus Guzman hit a monster HR to dead CF and has hit 4 homers this spring. He is a switch-hitter with power.

About that Guzman guy.....oh well.
Always ready to go to a game.

I could not spell his name, though. I was at Game Seven last night, and I told my friend who went with me I had seen him pitch at 19 in ST.

Incredible, coach.

We put it together beginning about the 5th inning of Game Six. Her brother flew in from Denver to join us. They grew up in KC and were giddy at seeing their team in a Game Seven. Great game and awesome atmosphere. An expensive excursion but well worth it for the thrilling experience they had.

That's awesome.  I hope to do that some day too and hopefully it's to see the Astros in their second World Series.
