There are three rules that I live by: never get less than twelve hours sleep; never play cards with a guy who has the same first name as a city; and never get involved with a woman with a tattoo of a dagger on her body. Now you stick to that, and everything else is cream cheese.

There's a whole 18-wheeler's load of smoke and mirrors in that one. So, is this McLane agreeing to some givebacks and public support for the settlement so that Crane drops his suit against McLane? If it is, will Crane be happy to let McLane have his little op-ed splash because money talks, or is this Drayton trying to get a dig in even though he's agreed to pay damages in the face of the lawsuit, and Crane may well feel the need to answer publicly?

...and Crane may well feel the need to answer publicly?

That's worked out well so far.
You may ask yourself, "How do I work this?"

It seems to me that all he is saying regarding the lawsuit against him by Crane is that he will take on the defense expenses himself rather than enforcing a clause that would require the network to pay for those expenses on his behalf.

We really need a guest op-ed response from pravata/ferret on this one, I think.

I don't think he'd ever say it out loud, but it seems to imply to me that he's backing the reorganization and the subsequent payout he'd have to make in return for Crane dropping the suit. It gives all parties some cover.

Speaking of Drayton, this is interesting from the Ike game.

Greg Lucas ‏@GREGCLUCAS:  "Is there an MLB city that has ill will toward retiring commissioner Selig? Try Houston. Played "Ike" games in Milwaukee...forced move to AL"

Alyson Footer ‏@alysonfooter: "hate to ruin the narrative but the Ike debacle was Drayton's fault. He could not have messed that up more."

I know a lot of folks put 100% of the blame on bud, but actually it was Drayton who F'd that whole thing up and he is the reason the Astros played in Milwaukee, not Bud.

All that being said, FYB.

He had a strange fealty to Drayton that I could never quite sort out.

In retrospect just fine, and I'm not usually one to think you would. Drayton probably should have just said no. Milwaukee was a slap in the City's face.

I've seen threads go worse.

I looked up it up because I couldn't remember what prav was arguing for (playing the games later). I'm not sure that was realistic either, but maybe we can get Footer to explain what was supposed to happen.

Well. There are still some lackeys around here who would surely make the same arguments. I guess they love the feel of lube on their asshole.

They must be loving the AL.

My biggest takeaway is that there used to be people posting in these forums.

I certainly used to post. I wouldn't wholly blame the team for my drop off,  but certainty doesn't help.

I'm going to have to revisit that thread because I can't remember exactly when or how it went completely off the rails.

In the Biz vs pravata thread every post was a sentence or two. And then Noe posted. Four, five paragraphs. Someone will have to let me know if he said anything intelligible.

She told me awhile back, but for the life of me I cant recall the details.  I remember stubbornly trying to still blame it on FYB, just because, but she was pretty clear it was Draytons fault.

I think it boiled down to Drayton not wanting to lose the gate money and waiting until the last possible second to make a decision then deciding to go with MKE cause he thought they'd make the most money there.

Did she think they could have been postponed? Or did she just think there was a better venue available?

I'm a pretty optimistic guy, and I remember thinking at the time it would be ok, and then after the game thinking I was an idiot.  I'm not sure there wasn't some of that in Drayton.  I still blame FYB for coming up with that solution.

I've never heard the Drayton side of that incident but it makes me despise his final years even more, and really doesn't change how I feel about Bud.

The thread was worth rereading, although I'm not yet all the way through it. When the team starts to win, folks will return.

I just reread the entire thread. The good news is that I didn't get involved: more than likely, manifestation of one of my mantras, which is when in doubt, sit it out. Chuck, I think that you sat that one out too. Pravata destroyed Biz on his own, but MM and VB piled on in the fun and frivolity. Nevertheless, there were some special nuggets in that thread, including the suggestion that someone go to the game dressed as Steve Bartman and something about Mark Cuban whining like a teenage bitch in his blog.
