Okay, everyone who is not already in the SnS fantasy football league. You are fucking up. But there is hope, there are openings for more players. It's a fun league. We have 31.438% more fun than the average fantasy football league. You should really give it a try. You can't get hurt and you might like it. It makes football season about 83.36% more fun and the void about 34.59% more fun. So if you don't like more fun you don't have to do a damn thing but if it's more fun you are seeking, you better join the league. Just PM DVauthrin or me, or Mr. Happy, or Chuck, or Austro, or Andy Zipp, or UTAstro...

Even though I'm not in your number, I must profess to more than a modicum of satisfaction when I bested your team.

Same here. Finishing ahead of chuck was about the fourth greatest thing by 27.43% over the fifth greatest thing of the season last year.

We currently are at 9 teams, so there's room for one more to get us to 10, or three more to get us to 12 teams.

Oh, contraire...I am the all-time worst fantasy football owner ever.  It is very harmful to ones team when you refuse to draft anyone from: The NFC East (with the obvious exception), The NFC West, The AFC West, AFC North or AFC South.  Oh, and most of the NFC North as well.  Forgot about those goddamned Packers.  And Bears.  And Vikings.  I hate the Lions as well, at least I did when that turd Schwartz was the coach.  Now I am not sure, but I will hate them anyway just to be on the safe side.  And don't get me started on the goddamned superiority complex associated with the AFC East or the general D-baggery of the NFC South.  In short, I tend to hate every team in the NFL except mine.  I refuse to root for any of their goddamned players to achieve success of any kind.  I would rather shove toothpicks under my fingernails than benefit from a Desean Jackson TD.

I'm in.

I figured I could smoke you out.

In the past we've sent $30 each to the commissioner who then sends it to the winner. This year I'm going to save time and just send it to Sphinx at the outset.

Oddly enough I don't have any misgivings about drafting players from teams I dislike or even drafting players I don't particularly care for. I can draft the Colts' best receiver and while I won't outright root for him I will see a silver lining in Kareem Jackson's chasing him up and down the field all day long.

There is a $30 buy in to participate in the payout but it is not required to play in the league. In the past some  team owners have opted out. I think so anyway. DVauthin?

I've never had an issue with that either. I like to think that it's because I have no problem separating fantasy from reality, and if some pitcher on my team is facing the Astros I hope for the good guys to drop a soupbone on his ass without batting an eye, rather than weaselly hoping for a 1-0 Astros win on an unearned run with golden Sombreros from Carter, Guzman and Dominguez to maximize the pitcher's stats as I've seen some folks do.

Also, if someone I dislike is on my team I will either have the opportunity to revel in his failure or stand to personally gain from his success, so it's a win-win.

Correct on both accounts.  In the past, everyone has chosen to buy in, but I'm running this like the fantasy baseball league moving forward.  If you want to play for money you can, if you would rather play for free, that's fine too(you just won't be eligible to win any money either).

Right now we have 11 teams, so we need one more brave soul to complete our 12 team league.  Who will it be?

So, I got an email from Yahoo Fantasy Football that the draft is scheduled for tomorrow at 7pm.

However, I logged on to the site and it says the draft is Sept 3rd at 7:30pm.

Which is it?

I cannot actually do the live draft tomorrow night due to a prior commitment, but I can set my auto-draft rankings, and I'm good for the $30 as well.

I can make either night, but I need to know which one it is. I haven't pre-ranked anything, but that might actually work out better than letting me pick.

I moved the draft back a week because Yahoo has been having major draft issues since the end of last week and I don't want to chance our draft failing tonight.  The draft is september 3rd(next wednesday) at 7:30 central.

I apologize for any inconvenience.

Well, Yahoo gave me a C+ for my draft, which seems pretty generous. My team is uuuuuuggggglllllly.

Everybody either got a B or a C+. While I was drafting I thought I was building a decent team. Post draft, it looks very thin and shaky. Sixth place finish at best.

I love the recaps; do we receive those weekly for each game like CBS Sports fantasy league? I used to have a client, Narrative Science, that had a technology that turned structured data into a narrative, but they told me they did not do the CBS Sports recaps.

For not really reviewing the scoring system and roster makeup prior to the draft I think I built a decent enough team.

I use an app called Game Changer to keep score/stats for my son's baseball teams.  It uses Narrative Science to write recaps.  It did a pretty good job.

I did not know Game Changer uses NS. It's a fascinating technology. They're still figuring out all of the practical applications and how to get companies to pay a steep price for it, but it's taken off in a few industries.

God's judgement against me drafting Ray Rice was to make me play Tony Romo as my QB.
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

I suspect, after the new video release, that you'll be losing Rice for the season.

In other news, the Ravens unveiled their statue to Ray Lewis (what is it about people called Ray?  Eh?  Oh).

The only thing that people who were there will admit is that there was a knife.  No one will say whether Lewis is holding it or not.

Because now that the public has seen what the NFL based its original 2 game suspension on, the NFL must consider exact same conduct that much worse. NFL leadership is a fucking joke.

Rice released by Ravens.

Presumably they'll have to move Unitas' statue over a little more to make room for Rice's when it goes in next year.

DeadSpin looks back at what the NFL said then, what it's saying now, and is pretty sure their pants are on fire.

Quote
Privately, top reporters were told in no uncertain terms that the video existed, that the NFL had seen it, that it showed Janay Palmer acting violently toward Rice, and that, if released, it would go some way toward mitigating the anger against him. One of the league's most devoted mouthpieces described the video for us on an off-the-record basis, going off what his sources had told him. The implication was clear: If you saw this video, you'd know why Rice only got two games.

Now that the video's out, the NFL and the Ravens are reversing course.

Exactly.  Two-game suspension for punching his fiancee.  What - there's video of it?  Indefinite suspension.

It's worse than that: per the DS article above, they said they'd seen the video, and it contained evidence of provocation that lead the NFL to be sympathetic to Rice.  They used this to justify the minuscule punishment, presumably on the expectation that the "exculpatory" video would never get out in public.

Best tweet  saw went something like:

NFL lawyer: Wes Welker popped Molly at the Kentucky Derby.
Goodell:  2 game suspension!
Lawyer:  Sir, Molly is a drug.
Goodell:  4 game suspension then.
You may ask yourself, "How do I work this?"

They are clearly lying about not having seen the video, but even if they hadn't, what the fuck does the video change?  He knocked his fiancee unconscious and dragged her out of the elevator like a hunk of meat.  You don't need a video to make it more punishable.  It's pathetic.

While that's clearly a lie, even just the exterior video is all anyone needs to know that what he did was awful.  Goodell and his fucking lackeys are so tone deaf that they honestly didn't expect there to be any reaction to the slap on the wrist initially, and their mock moral outrage now is pathetically transparent.  They are outraged because there is an outrage, otherwise they couldn't give a fuck about domestic abuse.

Well, it didn't take long to expose Goodell's lie.

A law enforcement official says he sent a video of Ray Rice punching his then-fiancee to an NFL executive three months ago, while league officers have insisted they didn't see the violent images until this week.

The person played The Associated Press a 12-second voicemail from an NFL office number on April 9 confirming the video arrived. A female voice expresses thanks and says: "You're right. It's terrible."

I think Duke's point, and mine too, is why would the NFL try to protect the guy in the first place if in fact they saw the tape? How valuable can one woman-beating, star running back be? There has to be a compelling reason for them to protect him knowing there's even the slightest possibility of the tape getting out.

The tremendous wealth generated by the NFL has led to enormous power which in turn has led to massive corruption. The concussion scandal is a much worse than the Rice affair, both in kind and degree. Whatever money is going to be paid out will not significantly affect the league or the owners. All will blow over soon and it will be back to business as usual. The product on the field stinks; it's tedious and boing. If it weren't for gamblers and fantasy players, I wonder how popular pro football would be.

And it's not like he's Adrian Peterson or anything.  Not that his level of stardom should matter, but Ray Rice was at the end of his career anyway and hadn't been a productive player in a couple of years.  The fact that they would (1) originally not take it very seriously (2) engage in a victim-blaming shitshow to excuse it away (3) react with utter naive dismay when the public recoiled at the original slap on the wrist (4) and then lie about what they didn't know, as if that should fucking matter anyway, all for an ineffective player at the tail end of his career just makes the NFL's utter disregard for the issue and victims of domestic abuse all the more galling.

Does the league permit a disabled list? My roster is turning into a hospital ward.

The league already has too many bench spots, imo.  Managers should not be able to have two (two!) tight ends on a ff roster.  The bench spots should be precious, which makes week to week cut/add decisions more crucial. My two cents.

Sincerely,
The guy starting coby fleener at tight end

Fret not, Monday, I entered the contest against Mr Happy a 99% to 1% favorite. Yet I still adeptly managed to pry a defeat from the jaws of victory.

Oh, I"m going to set a fucking record. I may not get to 20 points. I finally got fed up with Cutler and replaced him with Flacco, and Flacco produced 1.68 points for me. How is that even possible? Elite, my ass. New England score 51 points, and Vereen produces 3 points for me. How is that possible? I need Escobar to catch about 10 touchdowns tomorrow night.

I have secured my immortality: this week's performance will be recounted for decades, if not centuries. 18.68 points from 9 players.

Once again I am at one point so far ahead of my opponent that I'm favored with a 99% chance of winning. Then Rapistberger throws 6 touchdowns and I some how escape the jaws of victory. I'm starting to lose faith that these "percentage chance of winning" features are meaningful.

The turnovers certainly helped but I would have thought that my defense's scoring points with a safety would have registered somewhere. No matter, I'll be rescued by my quarterback play surely.

The 2 points you got on the safety didn't count against my defense, so only 20 points were scored against the Bills' defense which kept them in the 14-20 point range. I think it's three more fantasy points subtracted for 21-27 points surrendered.

Fucking Romo, man. I can handle losing, you know, I've had more than enough practice over the years. But to Romo? FMFFL.

I'm hoping for nothing but aerial fireworks tonight. That's more likely than an epic defensive battle.

Pretty big game tonight, chuck.

I think that we've all learned, sir, that by employing Tony Romo and Dez Bryant you, sir, are crass and opportunistic, completely without shame or principle.

At least I played Hopkins in this league.  He's on the bench in my other league, and that error will keep me out of the playoffs.

Mr. Happy's going off on me today. And in the last two weeks my opponents' two defenses have produced 54 points, which is completely ridiculous. There are seven defenses that haven't yet produced 54 points total this season.

Blind squirrel meet nut. I hated to start Cam Newton against my Saints, but I couldn't resist. Cleveland's defense stunned me, but they still lost.

I'm done with one J. Graham.    1.67 points from the #1 TE?   Something is starting to stink in New Orleans.

The Saints need to rebuild, without Rob Ryan.

Totally agree.   He was a major drain on the Cowboys and now the Saints.   Good riddance Mr Ryan..

What a stroke of irony too that it's Dallas vs Indianapolis.   A Luck vs T Romo (though you have D. Bryant too vs my R. Cobb)

They're assured of winning the division but can still get a bye

My other option is Russell Wilson against the Cardinals.   NOT an enticing matchup.

There's a whole lot of red on my Game Day Decision tab..

Congrats MusicMan on a well-deserved win today!

I have been doing the family thing today and so didn't have the stress of watching things deteriorate but clearly 4TDs from Tony told the tale of the tape.

It was a fun season everyone, thanks for the opportunity to join you all..

As it turns out, he did NOT play the whole game, but that's because it was a blowout.

So much for the FFB rankings.  He was supposed to be the #1 QB in the league and he scored exactly -1.28.   I'm an idiot and left R Wilson on the bench when he's the only one of the two who had something to play for.

I had the feeling that I was running into uncommonly bad luck during the season, but now I can confirm it. My team's trouble scoring points is my own fault, but my opponents scored more against me than against anybody else, and it wasn't close. My opponents totaled 1262.64 points against me; the next highest totals were 1168.04 and 1133.68. MusicMan's opponents scored 979.37, the lowest total in the league. In fact, the top four finishers had the four lowest "points against" totals. I'll have to pick my opponents more carefully next year.

Of note, the fact that you didn't get to play yourself skewed the points scored against data to the ups.
