UH's pitching coach is former Okie State head coach and former UT pitching coach Frank Anderson. He has turned a crap staff 3 years ago into one of the best in the nation now. Not many high draft pick types, but a bunch of SE Texas kids that just pound the strike zone. We had 10 pitchers throw more than 10 innings this season, the highest ERA amongst them carries a 3.00 ERA. 7 Guys have sub 2.50 ERAs.
They don't strike out a ton of guys, but they were 2nd in the nation in walks allowed. We walked 105 guys in 529 innings, while K-ing 390. Team WHIP was 1.02, 2nd in the nation.
Offense is pretty similar. Not much power, but we draw a ton of walks, 9th in the nation, that helped lift the pedestrian .281 BA, to a respectable .380 OB%.
Casey Grayson is the best hitter, by far. A 5th year senior who has battled injures the last 2 years but was healthy all season, he is also 1 of the better fielding 1st baseman I have watched at this level. We are very LH heavy. Lots of bunts and small ball.
As for the season, our SOS was 23, we had 2 losing weekends all year. Went 1-2 at the college classic beating Sam Houston and dropping 2 1 run games to Texas and TCU, and were swpet at home by Louisville.
I think Im gonna try and drive over Saturday.
