What does that mean, biceps tendinitis?

Sore for forever, or sore until he drops by the doctor and the nurse shoots him up with cortisone?

I'm no doctor, but I've had biceps tendinitis before, as well as elbow (commonly known as "tennis elbow") and shoulder tendinitis, and it can be pretty damn painful. Doctors treated mine a couple of times with cortisone shots and several times with anti-inflammatory pills. It can stay sore for a long time, or only for a few days until the inflammation goes down to an acceptable level. With the treatment that these guys probably get, I'd be surprised if the DL stint wasn't over in two weeks. During that time, you just have to shut down your arm, but still get in your leg work to stay in shape. He might need a rehab start to tune back up.

And as a bonus, he'll be that much fresher when the playoffs roll around.

Feldman had biceps tendinitis with the Rangers in 2005, and he was able to get some rest and come back healthy and effective.

"I'm not worried about it," the 31-year-old said. "It never bothered me again when I got it taken care of, and that was nearly 10 years ago."

I think he had that back in '92.

Actually, I had tennis elbow this year, though technically it was canoe-lifting elbow.  I went to the orthopedist (who as I age is swiftly becoming my orthopedist) who stuck a long needle full of cortisone into my arm.  It was immediately better.  That's why I was asking.

It's come back though.  It's now fly-casting and canoe-lifting elbow.

I used to get rotator cuff tendinitis every spring. You could set your watch by it. I'm surprised that you never suffered from tendinitis, or did you?

I definitely have never had spotted leopard crotch flu. I wasn't regaling anyone with a "tale of woe." I was addressing someone who wanted to know more about it. Since I've had that, I thought that I'd say how doctors treated mine. I didn't realize that it was going to attract witty comments from you.

This reminds me of the story Bouton told in Ball Four about visiting the Yankee's arm specialist:

Dr:  What's wrong?

Bouton:  My arm..it hurts when I throw.

Dr:  If it hurts when you throw, don't throw.

Bouton:  When can I throw again?

Dr:  When it stops hurting.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

The inability to relax is a classic symptom of spotted leopard crotch flu.

I figured the main symptom was the inability to detect sarcasm.

It looks like Feldman will sit out one more turn.  Given how Mchugh has pitched, who loses the spot in the rotation when Feldman returns?

Peacock goes back to long relief, although you could make a good argument to replace Oberholtzer.

Either Oberholtzer or Peacock goes back to the pen. I wouldn't mind Oberholtzer after he aired his lack of confidence in his teammates:

Quote
"We're not going to beat anyone on a day-to-day basis with our talent. But we definitely got to do a better job of willing ourselves to compete on a day-to-day basis. And matching the intensity the other teams bring to the game. A lot of these teams, especially in our division, they're strong and they're ready to compete and make it a long stretch down the road and hopefully go to the playoffs, unlike us. We're a little different."

Even though his assessment may seem accurate, I'd still rather Cosart's mentality of "We're going to surprise people". He may have said it out of frustration, but saying your team doesn't have talent isn't something you can take back.

Doesn't sound like a place with strong leadership.

Cosart's statement was before play started, IIRC.

I've seen it repeated since the season started.  Not in the last week, but it was during regular play.  Not going to argue that there may be a leadership void in some areas.

Just look at Obie's comments last night after the game.  The clubhouse is all over the place and lacks any confidence (logically).

If this team wants to make the step forward next year, they will need either strong veteran leadership in the clubhouse or a real manager.  Scott Feldman does not count as strong veteran leadership and Bo Porter does not count as a real manager.  Sign or trade for a couple of proven veterans to help guide this team or shitcan Porter for a manager who has a track record of winning.  Even the Nats had Frank Robinson take them to the next level.

I think you are right about Peacock headed back to long relief.  I also think Valdes gets DFA's for the new signing Sipp and Fields is sent to the minors to work things out making room for Feldman on the 25-man.  The bully is an absolute mess, though that is no news flash.

I sure hope Crain, Albers and Fields get their shit together...even if just two of them can.
