Probably saw
this article yesterday which indicates the young man is in minor league camp trying to resurrect his career as a first baseman after spending three years battling arm injuries (and never taking the mound) since being drafted by the Astros in the 3rd round in 2011. I was curious about this quote:
"It's been a lot of work," he said. "The moment I got cleared in September, I started swinging immediately. It's been a good five or six months of hard work. It's good I was a two-way guy in college so I was always swinging. ... It's something I always wanted to do since I loved it so much, and I was pretty good at it, and based on the circumstances because the arm has been through a lot, it's nice to have something to fall back on and to keep playing this game as long as you can."
I didn't remember him being a 2-way player at Vandy so I looked it up: he had a grand total of 7 ABs all as a pinch hitter during his collegiate career (FWIW, he DID have 4 hits).
Anyhow, best of luck to the kid as he tries to salvage his professional career.
