Winter Weather Woes
« on: January 06, 2014, 08:07:47 am »
We just had almost a foot of snow here in Toledo overnight, which piled onto the eight to ten inches that were already on the ground. Now the winds are howling at 25-30 mph and temps are expected to drop below zero (not wind chill) for the next 48-60 hours, topping off at -18 tonight. We're hunkered down here in the winter wonderland, but I'm watching some tree limbs that are close to what appear to be power lines that aren't far outside of our courtyard. This could get rather treacherous before it is all over. Everything is closed today and probably tomorrow. Have fun out there, but stay safe and warm. It's dangerous out there right now.

Good luck up there and stay warm.

Temps here in Dallas this morning are 15 to 16 degrees.  My brother's town in MN is -20 with a windchill of -44.  I can't imagine how cold that must be for folks to endure.

65 and muggy here right now but were expected to get down to a bone-chilling 31 tonight. 70s expected by midweek.

Stay safe, y'all.

Do I need to say it?  Yes I do...

When I was a kid in Tampa, we'd occassionally get a freeze.  In addition to the panic in the orange groves, it would give us what little taste of winter weather we got.  My dad would let the sprinklers run overnight to create icicles on trees, mailbox, etc.  It was as close to snow as we got, and we thought it was greatest thing since peanut butter.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

My sister lives in MN as well.  She said nobody there had ever before heard of school being cancelled because it's "too cold."

That's some scary shit!  Stay safe y'all midwesterners!
