Cisnero down, De Leon up
« on: August 07, 2013, 03:16:07 pm »
Didn't see that coming. Good for De Leon though. Not easy to convert from a SS to a pitcher, and be in the majors 3 years later.

In limited use Zeid and Lo have been a bit better than the past candidates.

Very limited appearances. There was a time we thought Clemens and Cisnero looked good.

Very true. I'm cautiously optimistic. They both seem to have excellent stuff though.

Me too because he's got an arm on him.

The Astros are collecting RH relievers who throw 95+ at the AAA/MLB levels: Lo, Zeid, Fields, Cisnero, Rhiner Cruz, Clemens... not sure whether De Leon throws that hard, or Stoffel, maybe I'm forgetting someone.

It would be nice if a couple of them turned to be good pitchers, and not just another hard thrower.

I was trying to recall who was still with the club.  Just an FYI:

Starters
Oberholtzer
Bedard
Cosart
Keuchel
Lyles
Peacock

Relievers (a misnomer for sure)
Lo
Fields
Chapman
Zeid
De Leon
Wright
Harrell

DeLeon is a former SS who throws mid-to-high 90's heat (IIR).  He never could hit, and the Astros have stuck with him through some pretty bad stats on the basis of his nasty stuff.

Ha, poor Stoffel

His BB/K ratio isn't up to par with those promoted ahead of him.  All I can figure.

The 3 game stretch in late July is the only reason that number isn't north of 2 (which it has been for his minor league career).

The snubbing started before that anyways.  I guess they must think his stuff just won't translate to the majors.

He's a groundball pitcher.  Given up 12 HRs in 232 minor league innings.

Yeah, I knew he was a converted SS (see the first post in this thread) and had a good heater, just wasn't sure if he threw quite as hard as those other guys.

Well, bringing up Chapman is no snub to Stoffel; clearly they wanted another LH to replace Blackley.

Something sounds rather appealing to me right now...a groundball pitcher out of the pen. Late inning HRs have killed our guys.

It will depend on what they do 40 man wise with Blackley.  If they stick him back on the 40 man as they did with Ambriz then Chapman's inclusion on the 40-man may hurt Stoffel's chances of making it on it in time before this year's Rule 5 draft.

Blackley was designated for assignment which means he's off the 40-man.

My bad, Ambriz was optioned.  Though I guess they could return Blackley to the 40 man within 10 days (unlikely)

NOW he's acting like an Astro. Call him up, Jeff.
Don't think twice, it's alright.
