PED-Day
« on: August 05, 2013, 09:20:00 am »
MLB announcement set for noon EST today.  The buzz is still about A-Rod, who seems likely to appeal any suspension.  That will allow him to keep playing while others accept their wrist-slaps and go home for the rest of the season (but be back in time for the playoffs).
Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak; courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen.

I predict the speediest appeal hearing in baseball history.

Presumably, they're still belaying rope out to A-Rod.

I find the connection to the ACES agency to be interesting.  I wonder, to the extent that they knew, if ACES will have their agency license pulled or suspended as well?  MLBTR has some interesting notes about the connection.

Reports are that A-Rod is the only player refusing to cop to a suspension.

Yes, he's a Corpus.  He blew the Monday game I attended.  Watching him pitch made me feel like nothing different was in the minors.

Cervelli's on the DL through year end.  Wonder how they work that?

Maybe this was the cause of the delay in the announcements; giving players time to come up with BS excuse, given that they weren't actually being required to admit anything.

Apparently the fine folks at New Cominsky greeted A-Rod loudly and lustily last night.   They booed him during warm-ups, during introductions and every time he was involved in a play.  According to the AP, for his 1st AB, they would've drowned out a jet engine.

The even better news is that, as pointless as it is, booing someone like A-Rod never gets old.  #PRW

I would say that there is as much evidence against Pujols as there is against Bagwell. Two very strong, amazing hitters with consistent careers which tailed off in their 30s.

Anyone familiar with Jack Clark's bankruptcy is aware that Jack Clark is an idiot. Kevin Slaten is an soon to be unemployed again, shit stirring sub-human piece of crap. I know this first hand from my years in Saint Louis. I couldn't think of two less credible and more bitter "sources." I hate the fucker and would love to see him exposed but these guys got nothing on Pujols but sound and fury.

Didn't know we were limiting the discussion to legally permissible evidence.

I'm not saying pujols is guilty because of what Clark said, just making a point of distinction between him and bagwell.  Bagwell's guilt is presumed to do a combination of timing, injuries, and affiliation.

Certainly not in a criminal trial* but, in a civil defamation suit, it may be entirely different.  Of course, Clark's source has already recanted in public, so it would be a pretty short proceeding.

The affiliation element of this continues to chap my arse.  The Yankees continue to be rocked by PED scandals to this day yet, somehow, the fact that two Yankees played on the Astros for a little bit (at a time when Baggy's performance was waning due to injury) he's more guilty-by-association than other actual Yankees.  W...T...F?

I remember that it was "Baggy's Gym", not "Andy's Pharmacy".

Hearsay is not always inadmissible.  And to get a little technical, if Jack Clark claims some former Cardinals guy told him he provided steroids to Pujols it's only hearsay if offered "for the truth of the matter asserted." It would still be relevant evidence in a defamation action to show that Clark's claim had some reasonable basis.
