Lineup Puzzlement
« on: July 20, 2013, 03:21:01 pm »
Two things I have noted recently that are very puzzling:

First:  DH Ronny Cedeno (e.g. yesterday) -- Huh?  There is only one good thing I can think of about this lineup entry, and that is that Cedeno will not be playing SS in this situation.  Of course, the other current option is not much better, so I'm not sure how positive this is.

Second:  Carlos Pena leading off (e.g. today) -- Huh??  How can CP possibly be the best leadoff candidate on the squad?  Or conversely, how can leadoff be the best place to hide CP??  I know that he walks (or at least waddles) a lot, but really?

Cedeno was in yesterday because he was 4 for 5 lifetime against Saunders and I guess Porter felt he was better against LHP than whatever else he had available. Pena can't catch up to the good fastball anymore, but Iwakuma doesn't throw one of those so Porter's trying to find the butter knife with the sharpest edge on it.

I feel for Porter trying to put together a lineup with all of  two guys that should even be starting in the MLs.

Why is Pena in organized baseball much less in the lineup? Martinez, Corporan, Krauss or almost anyone at Oklahoma City would be better. I wonder what it would take to get Bogusevic back.

That's a mouthful, especially coming from you.

How could you possibly judge a coach's or manager's skills given what they have to work with this year?
You may ask yourself, "How do I work this?"

So ... was I just impatient by a day, or did someone read my post and act on it?
