Ian Kennedy: Headhunter
« on: June 12, 2013, 04:01:26 am »
Diamondbacks' pitcher Ian Kennedy hits Dodgers' Puig in the face with a 92 MPH fastball. Puig stays on the ground for a couple of minutes before getting in the game. Next inning Dodgers' pitcher Greinke hits Diamondbacks catcher Monterro in the back. Next inning Kennedy sends one up-and-in (moving towards Grienke's head), hitting him in the shoulder. All hell broke loose after that, including a Mattingly body slam...

The brawl video (narrated by Scully) can be seen here.
In the end, my dissolution with the game of baseball will not be a result of any loss of love for the game, rather from the realization that I can no longer bear the anger its supposed stewards cause to be built up in my soul. -Lee (01/08/2013)

I'm not sure what the dbacks were thinking.  Whether the pitch was intentional or not to Puig (it didn't seem intentional), you hit him in the face, something is probably going to happen.  Getting pegged in the back was hardly egregious.     Kennedy should get suspended for at least a month for that last pitch to Greinke.  Intentional throwing around the head area is criminal.

Not sure why Grienke wasn't tossed on his.  That one was obviously intentional.  To me the umps messed this one up.  Warnings yet or not, you can toss someone for an intentional beaning at anytime.

Both those teams have a lot of former players on their coaching staffs.  McGuire, Baylor, Gibson, Mattingly, Matt Williams.  All of them looked ready to mix it up with each other at least as much as the players.

Baylor looks like he has gotten soft around the middle but I would damn sure stay as far away from him as possible.

Longer video of the second brawl, which led to 6 ejections: http://wapc.mlb.com/play/?topic_id=6479266&content_id=27951177

Crazy, crazy, crazy. I'm expecting several suspensions over the next couple of days. Greinke may not get one, but he deserves one, and Kennedy damn sure does, tossing at two different guys' heads.

I didn't spot the Mattingly body slam, but I will take this opportunity to reiterate that Kirk Gibson is a piece of shit and I was really hoping McGwire would deck the asshole.

I had the same reaction. I was surprised that it was all the old guys who seemed to be the most interested in escalating things.

Think it's at about 2:15.  Can't tell if it's Mattingly, and it's more pulling the guy to the ground than a body slam, but that was the only thing resembling wrestling that I saw.

Not a single piledriver? How disappointing.

Cole Hamels got five games for hitting Bryce Harper in the back. You should never throw at someone's head. Kennedy did it twice, he should get at a 10 game suspension for each offense.

Has anyone ever seen John Cena and Mark McGwire in the same place?
