Seems odd the lineups are coming out so early these days.  Is there no benefit to waiting before naming the starters for the day?

As a ball player, you want to know early on game day whether you are going to be in the lineup that day. It helps you mentally prepare. And once the players know, the press knows. The lineups are usually made public four to six hours before game time.

Wallace is back in the lineup.

He's going to hit. Eventually. Porter is putting several lefty hitters in there against Richards. I'm a little surprised that Ankiel isn't in the lineup tonight.

I get that.  But you can tell a player he's in the lineup without announcing the lineup.  The rule is you can change the lineup right up till you hand it to the umpire.

Does it not give the opposing battery time to prepare?

In the pre-game meetings and the preparation for each start, the pitchers go over every hitter on the roster. There really aren't very many surprises. Pitchers watch a lot of video of hitters, and so do hitters at that level.

True but is there is not benefit to knowing the lineup as a whole?  Might change your strategy against players knowing who follows who.  And not to mention for the starting pitcher you can really go over just 9 guys 6 hours before the game starts.  Used to be lineups came out half hour to an hour ahead of time.  Just seems a little unstrategic to announce your lineup so early.

I don't disagree with you. If I was a manager, I'd want to keep everyone guessing. But the press partners wouldn't like that. Remember, this is the entertainment business.

They trotted out foam fish-shaped Trout hats in what seemed like a matter of weeks and now he has his own fan section with t-shirts ala Gunther a few year's ago.

Again (I think was his fourth ground out to Dominguez tonight)..

ETA: he had 4 grounders to Dominguez at this point, but did work one of them into an infield single.

Did the Astros waive Shuck? Or was there a trade or something?
I think they waived him last year. He went to another team between the Astros and Angels if I am not mistaken.

Another solid outing of work by the starter wasted by a crap pen.

Cruz worked out of his with minimal damage if JD hustles in right. Ambriz pitched well. Veras gives up a run in nearly every outing.

Yep. Walking Jimenez to get to Trout and Pujols is not a recipe for success.

Pujols looks very human in this series.  Never remember him being this way.  Good for us, hope it stays that way for many years.

The BBG's fucked us over this comment.

Wasn't the pitch to Pujols that did Veras in.  It was the walk to the number 9 hitter.

You're right, but the meatball to Pujols didn't help.

Believe it or not, Pujols still drove in the two runs that won the game. So I think I can argue pretty successfully that fucking shitty meatball served to Pujols that immediately ended the game probably DID do him in.
