On baseball fashion...
« on: April 02, 2013, 09:14:08 am »
Since the Astros wore their new duds for the first time on Sunday, I just thought I'd remind everyone that there is a proper way to wear your stirrups.  The higher cutout goes at the back of your leg.  So if anyone, for whatever reason, feels compelled to wear these magnificent creations...on the field, in the stands, at the office, in church, what have you...please wear them properly.

That is all.
The rules of distinction were thrown out with the baseball cap.  It does not lend itself to protocol.  It is found today on youth in homes, classrooms, even in fine restaurants.  Regardless of its other consequences, this is a breach against civility.  A civilized man should avoid this mania.

Rose goes in front, big guy.
I believe there ought to be a constitutional amendment outlawing AstroTurf and the designated hitter. I believe in the sweet spot, soft-core pornography, opening your presents Christmas morning rather than Christmas Eve and I believe in long, slow, deep, torture of Bud Selig.

The higher the stirrup, the cooler you look.

Absolutely false!  Traditional stirrups are 9 inch cuts.  You may substitute 7 inch cuts, but none of this "all stirrup/no sock" look.  That's bush.

I always take my 9s and cut them to add another 7" of stirrup. That's why I always wear shorts, so I can maintain my cool.

I submit Exhibit A.

Quote
In "Ball Four," written in 1969, Jim Bouton reported that some players were actually slicing the bottoms of their stirrups and sewing in some extra material so they could be stretched even higher, exposing as much white as possible. That way, wrote Bouton, "your legs look long and cool instead of dumpy and hot."

Precisely the wrong way to wear them.
