So, I'm checking out Orangebloods this morning and there is a thread there that Rosenthal had said yesterday Norris was about to get dealt. Anyone see that?

I didn't see that, because Fuck Rosenthal, but I did see a few other more mainstream references to it. He is definitely on the block, and what I saw even had a couple of meaningless quotes from him on it.

He was speculating because everyone knows teams were asking about Norris at the winter meetings.  That and the Astros have a bunch of options for the starting rotation right now.  Of course he ignores the real possibility that all those options could suck so bad they don't deserve to be in even the Astros rotation.

They do have a lot of options for the rotation... They also need a closer... And this regime has demonstrated they are willing to turn a starter into a closer as a prelude to trading him mid-season.

Erin Hogan on Austin's AM 1260/104.9FM was declaring Norris was traded yesterday, so that may be why an Orangebloods thread started.  Erin then declared the modern record for losses in a season was 106, so there you go.

At least he's acknowledging the existence of the Astros, unlike most Austin media.

BP's take:
Quote
With Lohse and Saunders still unemployed, and several other veterans—including, as Rosenthal mentioned, Chris Capuano, Aaron Harang, and Luke Hochevar—available via trade, the market might suddenly have excess supply. Norris’ relatively inexpensive, controllable contract sets him apart from the group, but it might also force suitors to part with more young talent.

Given that there are multiple interested teams, it seems likely that Luhnow’s asking price will be met before Opening Day. Then again, since Norris is only entering his fourth full year of major-league service, the GM can afford to bide his time until one of his counterparts grows more desperate. From that standpoint, Norris may not be traded before Saunders signs or another injury—especially if it involves a pitcher in a shallower organization than the Cardinals—accelerates the market.

One thing I'm really going to miss about all this, is ragging on Norris in Series Previews.

I ragged on him a bit more in game recaps, particularly his home/road splits.

Well of course not -- "right now" you're doing a national TV interview. Five minutes earlier or later, however...

True but what else could he say? "We're hanging on to Norris until close to the deadline when hopefully some team in contention will overpay"?

BTW, two weeks until camp opens and Michael Bourn is still available. That's almost unbelievable to me.

I agree with you; he couldn't have said anything else unless he wanted to deceive us, which I don't believe because I've seen no evidence of that yet. However, I still think that Luhnow has a little bit of Slick Willie in him (it all depends on what the word "is" is-all-time classic).

So from 5 year 100 million to 4 year 48 million.  That fell pretty far from the Appel tree

I never saw that asking price out there. I think it was more like 5 yrs/$75mil.

For 4/$48mil, I think the Indians got a deal.
